Maintenance Technician - Streets/Utilities in Oak Ridge at City of Oak Ridge TN

• Works to ensure compliance with concrete or asphalt specifications and standards.
• Operates heavy and light equipment, and power and hand tools.
• Assists work crews in the clearing and cleaning of storm drains and catch basins and in the repair of water mains during multiple water line breaks.
• Ensures proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment. Coordinates maintenance as needed.
• Operates road graders to remove snow from streets, loads salt and sand onto trucks as part of snow and ice control.
• Reports to work for on-call after hours needs, as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the practices, processes, materials, methods, tools and equipment used in general road construction and maintenance work utilizing asphalt and concrete.
• Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
• Skill in reading and understanding schematics and blueprints.
• Skill in the use of a variety of test equipment and specialized hand and power tools.
• Skill in maintaining accurate records and reports.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; take responsibility for quality and timeliness of work; respond to unplanned requests; complete assigned tasks and report progress; demonstrate behavior consistent with Department direction.
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with the public.
• Ability to take control of situations in a responsible manner.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays due to adverse weather conditions, construction projects, or other emergency service.

Required Education, Experience, Licensing, and Certifications

• High School Diploma/equivalent.
• Previous experience in asphalt, concrete maintenance and repair work preferred.
• Possession of a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License.
