JOB TITLE: Environment of Care Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: The Environment of Care Specialist is responsible for supporting a safe, compliant, and functional healthcare environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role ensures adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards (such as CMS, OSHA, DOH, WSSHE and NFPA) by monitoring, auditing, and improving environmental safety, emergency preparedness, and life safety practices across the organization.

  • Conduct Environment of Care and Life Safety inspections with accuracy, consistency, and ethical accountability
  • Communicate findings clearly, respectfully, and transparently with leaders and frontline staff

  • Perform detailed audits, risk assessments, and tracers to identify opportunities for improvement beyond minimum compliance

  • Participate in Environment of Care and Safety Committees, contributing data-driven insights and recommendations
  • Proactively follow regulatory updates and best practices to elevate organizational performance

  • Support staff education and engagement efforts that empower teams to take ownership of their environment

  • Partner with external agencies, vendors, and community responders to strengthen preparedness and compliance
  • Represent the organization professionally during surveys, inspections, and community interactions

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine Environment of Care and Life Safety inspections
  • Support compliance with CMS, OSHA, DOH, and all other regulatory bodies
  • Assist with emergency management planning, drills, and after-action reporting
  • Maintain documentation, reports, and compliance dashboards
  • Participate in safety committees and survey readiness activities

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, safety, facilities management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge of healthcare, safety and regulatory standards
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills
  • Ability to conduct inspections and communicate findings clearly
  • Experience in a healthcare or regulated environment
  • Familiarity with CMS and DOH
  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar certification
  • Experience with emergency management programs
  • Valid WA driver's License

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, and conduct inspections throughout facilities

  • On-site presence required; occasional after-hours or on-call support may be needed

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Both office and outdoors, hospital grounds.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to sit for long periods.
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • May require occasional travel between facility locations.

Benefit Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.

Employee Dependents - Your legal spouse or domestic partner; dependent children until age 26.

Waiting Period - 1st of the month from the date of hire.
