Housing Support Specialist at Chicanos Por La Causa – Albuquerque, New Mexico

POSITION SUMMARY

The Housing Support Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and access to essential services for guests staying at the shelter. This role involves providing comprehensive case management services, supporting guests in developing and executing individualized plans to secure and maintain permanent housing. The Housing Support Specialist works collaboratively with guests to identify and overcome barriers to housing, connect them with community resources, and provide ongoing support throughout their housing journey. This position also involves maintaining a safe and supportive environment within the shelter, coordinating services, and assisting with daily shelter operations as needed. The Housing Support Specialist is crucial in facilitating access to medical, supportive, and other services, while also providing guidance on compliance with shelter policies and fostering a positive and respectful environment for all guests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

• A Bachelor Degree, preferred
• Two years of experience in housing, case management or social service delivery
  • A combination of a minimum of six years of work experience and education will be considered
• Certified Peer Support Worker preferred
• Previous experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or in a supportive housing setting is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and a commitment to applying them in practice
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural competency
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
• Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and client management software
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed
