The Opportunity: Claims Specialist
The main objective of this position is to investigate, evaluate, and dispose of all first (VIT, VPA, HRCPII) and third-party (non-port related) property damage claims, as well as all third-party injury claims filed against the Port of Virginia (POV).
What You’ll Do: Responsibilities
- Manage a large volume of unique claims belonging to a variety of claimants.
- Evaluate and analyze claims for accuracy and validity.
- Create and respond to internal and external correspondences.
- Retain qualified surveyors to represent and protect the POV’s interests. Maintain the relationship and communications with hired surveyors.
- Negotiate Claim Settlement amounts.
- Execute legal documentation, such as a Notice of Liability or General Release.
- Prepare and maintain Expense Reserves.
- Obtain investigatory documentation and consult with experts, such as Lawyers, Engineers, and Marine Surveyors.
- Review applicable insurance policies to ensure proper coverage and limits of liability.
- Other duties as assigned.
