Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
P ossessed as a Direct Support Professional will provide multiple services to the people we support including assisting with basic life skills development, community awareness, and employment training. Your job will be to promote self-advocacy and help gain independence by instructing on how to complete daily living activities. You must have patience, a personable demeanor, excellent communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for working with people to achieve valued outcomes in their individualized service plans
Responsible for assisting and supervising in the environment of their choice.
Assisting individuals in reaching their potential through community integration.
Assist with program planning and training toward the goals of independence and choice.
Work assisting people served in becoming self-sufficient, self-advocating, self-driven, self-actualized individuals.
Responsible for overall protective oversight of the person based upon their needs.
Assisting with teaching Personal Hygiene/Self Care.
Assist with skill building services for the continued development and teaching of daily living skills.
Community inclusion: learning to use libraries, recreation centers, go shopping including Basic Money Management: how to make intelligent purchases, count change.
Self -advocacy/Inform choice: helping persons to make choices and advocate for themselves
Travel Training use trains & buses, make transfers, etc.
Appropriate Social Skills/Behavior/Relationship building.
Safety in the community/home: crossing streets, seeking help.
Submit all paperwork in a timely manner - documentation of services provided to each person supported
Will act as a professional role model and will maintain a professional manner and presentation at all times. Since work is done off site, the staff will acknowledge they are representing the ISAIL program to the community.
Meet monthly with supervisor for supervision.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma/GED is required; an associate degree is preferred.
One year of related experience is preferred but not required working with adults with developmental disabilities especially in employment training or vocational settings.
Be empathetic and have a team approach to care for the individuals
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Be energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor
Must attend all mandatory trainings as needed
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid NYS driver license with acceptable driving record
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
