PURPOSE:

This position will provide leadership and direction to the Quality Assurance team relating to the implementation of programs, policies, and objectives to ensure corporate quality, culture, service, and cost goals are met. They will also work collectively with the sanitation team, ensuring cleaning procedures of the production plant, equipment, food contact surfaces, and facility grounds are completed according to FDA, State Regulations, OSHA, USDA, SQF, D.E.P/E.P.A., and company SOP standards. Responsibilities also include making decisions on product QA standards and reviewing programs and processes to ensure compliance including but not limited to regulatory, GMP, organic, food safety, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly lead and manage Quality Assurance team towards the accomplishment of organizational goals; mentor their professional development and evaluate their organizational effectiveness in alignment with the company’s performance expectations.
  • Support the organization as we develop, maintain, and improve QA test methods, specifications, and programs.
  • Ensure that in-process and finished goods conform to in-house quality policies and procedures as well as all other applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct inspections of processing facility to ensure compliance with regulatory, GMP, and food safety programs.
  • Review programs, records, and product to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure that GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s and quality standards are recognized, understood and maintained throughout the Company.
  • Work across all disciplines to ensure the Company maintains a state of readiness for inspection by regulatory agencies.
  • Under the guidance of the Senior Management and Plant Manager, acts as a liaison with external parties on matters relating to quality systems and/or certifications.
  • Maintains the supplier approval program, including review of new ingredients.
  • Generate, design, and maintain reports, databases, and spreadsheets to analyze data, communicate to Management and applicable departments.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, ideally with a focus in Food Science Curriculum or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years quality and leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • HACCP, Food Safety and OSHA Certifications preferred
  • SQF Practitioner is a plus
  • Proven success in mentoring and professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual skills – Spanish is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional communicator with all levels of the organization.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and able to work cross functionally with all levels in the organization
  • Highly organized, motivated and task oriented
  • Advanced computer user skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
