POSITION OVERVIEW

Assemblers produce components by assembling parts and subassemblies.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assembly position is primarily responsible for:

  • Prepares work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists.
  • Gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
  • Assembles components by examining connections for correct fit.
  • Positions parts and subassemblies by using templates or reading measurements to fasten.
  • Comply with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

ESSENTIAL

DESIRABLE

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience in maritime industry

Assembly Tier Requirements

Assembly: Minimum of six (6) months experience in a mechanical assembly environment or demonstrated proficiency in assembling procedures.

Assembly I: Minimum one (1) year experience in a mechanical assembly environment or demonstrated proficiency in assembling procedures.

Assembly II: Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a mechanical assembly environment or demonstrated proficiency in assembling procedures.

Assembly III: Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a mechanical assembly environment or demonstrated proficiency in assembling procedures.

Assembly IV: Minimum seven (7) to eight (8) years’ experience in a mechanical assembly environment or demonstrated proficiency in assembling procedures.

Confined space sentry, entry, and/or rescue

Certified to a moderate level of skill and knowledge to ensure compliance to standards and specifications.

Good communication skills both verbal and written.

Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.

  • Ensure task risk assessments are conducted to carry out all work safely.
  • Commitment to a focus on safety and a culture of hazard identification and control.
  • Compliance with company policies and procedures to protect themselves, work colleagues and the environment.
  • Report all incidents, hazards and near misses, including environmental cases.
  • Follow all quality control and assurance systems in place.
  • Take part in annual performance appraisals.
  • Participate and follow any fitness for work or recover at work plans implemented for the individual.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment where exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp cutting tools, dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.
  • Employees must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and or move more than 75 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to strand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protection and work boots.

RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Assembly Supervisor. Birdon’s senior management team, including Divisional Managers, may provide additional direction and duties from time to time.

This role requires a good relationship with the individuals and teams across the Production and Project delivery organizations to ensure Birdon achieves the safe completion of the agreed work, in the time required.

Your communication and direct contact with Birdon clients are an important aspect of this position. It is your responsibility to ensure that Birdon's values and interests are maintained during your relationship with clients, subcontractors, visitors, suppliers, and employees.
