WILDLIFE MONITOR

LOCATION: Various Remote Sites across the North

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Reliability

Nasittuq Corporation (from the Inuktitut word meaning “looking out from the highest point”) operates and maintains the North Warning System (NWS), a critical joint Canada-US radar network with 47 sites across Northern Canada.

SCOPE

The Wildlife Monitor supports North Warning System operations by ensuring the safety of personnel during outdoor work across northern locations. This role involves:

  • Traveling with teams during assigned projects.
  • Assessing risk levels of planned activities.
  • Providing safety guidance and instructions on wildlife encounters.
  • Deterring wildlife interactions as needed.
  • Supporting seasonal projects, including sealift operations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Ensure strict adherence to Nasittuq’s safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
  • Safely handle and operate wildlife deterrents (e.g., bear bangers, bear spray, whistles).
  • Communicate effectively with teams to ensure awareness of safety measures.
  • Work in various Arctic environments, often in remote locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WHO YOU ARE
  • Education: Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent.
  • Certification/Licenses:
  • Valid Possession Acquisition License (PAL).
  • Basic Wildlife Monitor or Wildlife Safety Technician Certification.
  • Wilderness First Aid CPR + AED Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Must be able to receive and retain a Reliability Security Clearance.
  • Experience: At least 2 years in a similar role (e.g., hunter, guide, camp safety officer).
  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of Northern wildlife risks (bears, wolves, wolverines).
  • Ability to travel frequently by helicopter and small aircraft.
  • Physically fit, able to walk on uneven terrain in Arctic conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Effective communication skills with diverse groups.
