Based on our internal equity review process, the starting hourly wage for this position will be $32.28.
The full-salary range for this position is $32.28 - $40.09 per hour.

Position Information Under the direction of an assigned lead or supervisor, perform a variety of skilled grounds maintenance and park facility maintenance duties. Park Maintenance Technicians have a demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of park and facility maintenance and operations including areas of landscaping, irrigation, pools, spray grounds, playgrounds, assets and facility maintenance and repair, and must possess the appropriate license as required. Incumbents demonstrate initiative and work with considerable freedom to act and perform in a leadership capacity directing staff, volunteers and crews as necessary.
In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:

- Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
Operate as assigned and in a safe manner all types of trucks less than 26,001 GVWR, equipment and machines, including loaders with up to 1 cubic foot bucket capacity, trailers, trenchers, tractors, riding mowers, hand mowers, turf equipment, forklift, , cement and asphalt equipment, air compressors and all other equipment not requiring a Commercial driver's license; maintain equipment and tools in safe and proper working condition.
Design, install and maintain landscape beds, perform landscaping, plant and turf maintenance and other horticultural activities; prepare soil for seeding and sow grass seed and lay sod; repair and maintain flower beds; mix and apply fertilizers, pesticides and chemicals according to established procedures and guidelines.
Inspect, maintain, and perform minor repairs for buildings, facilities and parks including fences, irrigation systems, pools, spray grounds, turf and landscape beds, site furniture,, signs and play equipment.
Provide work direction, guidance and oversight to staff and volunteers; inspect and assure work is completed according to expectations.
Perform construction, installation, and maintenance of site furniture, fences, play and spray ground equipment, signage, irrigation systems, fixtures, cabinets, and shelving.
Perform grounds maintenance and care duties, such as mowing and trimming lawns, pruning trees and shrubs and removing leaves, snow and debris; water, fertilize and weed lawns and gardens as required.
Perform repairs, replacement and construction duties as assigned, such as irrigation, carpentry or masonry work.
Maintain sport courts including repairing backstops and fences; patch, clean, sweep and pressure wash tennis courts. Maintain athletic fields; cut grass; drag and line fields.
Construct and maintain trails and assist in the repair of roads; assist in the construction/repair and maintenance of catch basins, dikes, storm equipment sewers, sidewalks and curbing; build paths and steps; mix, pour and finish concrete; line parking lots.
Support and assist in general maintenance, repair, and construction work in the various maintenance trades, including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and painting.
Perform a variety of semi?skilled (non journey level / license not required) duties related to the maintenance and repair of Park District buildings, grounds, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, equipment, plumbing systems and vehicles.
Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of utilities like gas, water, electrical lines.
Maintain routine records related to parks maintenance activities and assignments as required.
Sweep and blow debris from walks and driveways; gather and remove trash from grounds.
Perform a variety of specialized duties for special events and activities, and seasonal events.
Prepare facilities for specialized use; move furniture and equipment as required.
Perform custodial and cleanup functions as required; clean restrooms, toilets, sinks, mirrors and walls. Sweep, mop, and clean floors; vacuum carpets and rugs. Perform deep cleaning and floor resurfacing as assigned.
Determine necessary parts for daily operation; research equipment, tools, parts and materials to secure best source, price and quality; secure quotes and bids according to established procedures; purchase materials and parts according to established guidelines.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Based on area of assignment, duties may also include:
Perform inspections of play courts and playground equipment and keep records; perform maintenance repairs and replacements of major playground components and hardware in accordance with NPSI guidelines.
Plan, plant and maintain gardens, landscape beds and specialty plant collections. Keep records and coordinate with support groups. Monitor fertility levels, pest thresholds and plant health, managing the care and environment for optimal results.
Manage and maintain Park District pools, spray parks, wading pools and related systems. Perform chemical level tests of pools and related systems and maintain records of results by health regulation standards; add chemicals as needed to maintain water quality.
Operate, clean, and monitor the condition of heating boilers and related systems; lubricate motors and pumps; maintain ventilating systems; operate, adjust and repair chlorinating equipment; conduct chlorine, humidity, and pH tests; maintain records according to health regulation standards.
Operate, backwash and clean sand, mechanical and diatomaceous filter systems; change filter stones, and replace sand in sand filter systems; convert filter system to vacuum system; brush and vacuum pool bottoms.
Perform irrigation work in the maintenance and repair of valves, pipes, and other devices; assure the proper operation of systems and equipment; winterize systems for seasonal change.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Five years of experience in park and facility maintenance and operations or in a related field required.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency within probationary period.
• Ability to obtain and maintain job specific training , license and certification as required.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills of all park and facility asset repair, maintenance and operations
