DSP- (Weekends)

Position Summary:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in a residential group home setting. DSPs assist individuals with daily living activities, promote independence, and support participation in home and community life. This role requires a compassionate, person-centered approach while ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals served. DSPs may also support individuals with behavioral needs and are expected to follow established behavior support strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Care & Daily Living Support

  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, toileting, and meal preparation
  • Support individuals in developing independent living skills and routines
  • Encourage participation in recreational, social, and community activities
  • Provide transportation to appointments and community outings as required

Person-Centered Support

  • Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs) in a respectful and consistent manner
  • Promote choice, independence, and dignity in all interactions
  • Build positive relationships with individuals served

Behavioral Support

  • Follow Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and utilize approved strategies to support individuals with behavioral needs
  • Recognize early signs of distress and use de-escalation techniques as trained
  • Maintain a calm and supportive approach during challenging situations
  • Report behavioral incidents according to agency policy

Health & Safety

  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized home environment
  • Monitor individuals’ health and report concerns to appropriate staff
  • Administer medications as trained and authorized
  • Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete daily documentation, including progress notes and incident reports, accurately and on time
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect individuals’ rights

Team Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with House Managers, Crisis DSPs, and other team members
  • Participate in team meetings and trainings as required
  • Support a positive team environment and collaborate to meet individual needs
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required
  • Ability to learn and implement behavior support strategies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a residential or caregiving setting
  • Knowledge of person-centered practices and basic behavior support principles
  • Ability to remain patient, dependable, and flexible

Work Expectations:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness to provide hands-on care and support as needed
  • Ability to respond appropriately to behavioral or medical situations

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as needed
  • Ability to assist individuals with mobility and transfers
