Senior Account Manager Technical Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Account Manager – Technical Lead based in the United States.

This senior-level role combines client relationship management, technical retirement-plan expertise, compliance, and team leadership.
You’ll independently manage assigned accounts while serving as a trusted resource for complex administration and regulatory matters.
The position involves compliance testing, contribution calculations, government filings, corrections, audits, and year-end deliverables.
You’ll work closely with clients, advisors, auditors, payroll teams, and internal colleagues to ensure accurate and timely plan administration.
As a technical lead, you’ll mentor account managers, share expertise, and help establish consistent, high-quality service practices.
You’ll also contribute to process improvements and special projects that strengthen operational efficiency and client experience.
This is an opportunity for an experienced retirement professional to take on significant technical ownership while influencing both client outcomes and team performance.

Accountabilities
  • Independently manage assigned retirement plan accounts while maintaining strong client relationships and delivering timely, accurate, and high-quality service.
  • Interpret plan documents and apply ERISA, IRS, and DOL requirements to qualified retirement plans, including 403(b) arrangements.
  • Analyze census data, determine participant eligibility, and coordinate with clients and payroll teams to validate entry dates and eligibility requirements.
  • Calculate employer contributions and confirm annual funding requirements in accordance with plan provisions.
  • Perform plan redesign and projection testing to support compliance, planning, and client needs.
  • Conduct annual nondiscrimination and compliance testing, including ADP/ACP, 415, 402(g), 416, and 410(b), and clearly communicate results to clients.
  • Identify and calculate required corrections, including missed deferrals and other compliance issues, and coordinate with clients to ensure appropriate resolution.
  • Apply correction methods such as self-correction, VCP, DFVCP, and other applicable approaches.
  • Review the timeliness of employee deferral deposits, communicate late-deposit issues to employers, coordinate corrective actions, and report corrections on Form 5500 when required.
  • Complete year-end cleanup activities, including forfeiture reallocations, source transfers, required minimum distributions, and other compliance-related follow-up.
  • Prepare and support government filings, including Forms 5500, 5558, 5330, and 8955, as well as filings associated with complex plan circumstances.
  • Work directly with Form 5500 auditors to address corrections, resolve plan issues, and respond to audit requests.
  • Coordinate plan amendments and specification updates, including submitting requests to Legal, updating system specifications, obtaining signatures, and following through to completion.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert and resource for account managers on complex administration, testing, compliance, corrections, and client-service matters.
  • Mentor and train new account managers, present technical concepts during team meetings, and promote knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Monitor deadlines and collaborate with administrators to ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Participate in process-improvement initiatives and special projects designed to enhance consistency, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Lead or participate in client and advisor meetings, communicate complex information clearly, and manage sensitive or high-priority client relationships.
  • Support client onboarding and transitions by participating in document calls and helping obtain historical plan and platform information.
  • Assist with plan termination activities when required and ensure clients receive appropriate guidance throughout the process.
Requirements
  • College degree required, along with 8+ years of retirement industry experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in account management or a comparable retirement plan administration role.
  • QKA designation required.
  • Demonstrated mastery of retirement plan administrator functions, compliance processes, testing, corrections, and client service.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations applicable to qualified retirement plans, including 403(b) plans.
  • Proven experience performing complex nondiscrimination and compliance testing, calculating contributions, preparing government filings, and resolving plan corrections.
  • Experience working with Relius required.
  • Experience with FT Williams required.
  • Experience with Salesforce strongly preferred.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft applications and business software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and regulatory concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, advisors, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
  • High level of confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive client and retirement plan information.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including the willingness and ability to mentor colleagues and serve as a technical resource.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to independently manage multiple accounts, priorities, deadlines, and complex deliverables.
Benefits
  • Salary: $90,000–$105,000 per year.
  • Fully remote position within the United States.
