Position SummaryThe Class A CDL Route Driver plays a critical role in safely transporting organic materials throughout a designated regional service area. Drivers operate Class A commercial vehicles while servicing customer locations, collecting food waste, transporting totes, and ensuring all routes are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT regulations and Denali safety standards.
Drivers are responsible for maintaining equipment, completing required documentation, and building strong customer relationships while operating in various weather conditions and challenging work environments.
This is a Safety-Sensitive Position requiring sound judgment, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the safety of yourself, your coworkers, our customers, and the motoring public.
Schedule- Regional routes assigned by management
- Average of 45–50 hours per week
- Flexible schedule based on operational needs and seasonal demands
- Occasional weekends and overtime as required
- Home daily or overnight routes depending on business needs
- Safely operate Class A CDL tractor-trailers in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.
- Operate both manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles.
- Haul organic materials using 30–45-foot open-top dump trailers and combination vehicles.
- Safely collect, transport, and unload food waste and customer materials.
- Lift, move, and maneuver totes weighing up to 75 pounds throughout the workday.
- Perform complete pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections.
- Crawl underneath trucks and trailers to inspect slack adjusters, brake components, air lines, suspension, and other DOT-required equipment.
- Maintain trucks, trailers, and assigned equipment in clean, safe operating condition.
- Perform minor repairs using basic hand tools when appropriate.
- Utilize Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) and maintain accurate DOT logs.
- Complete contamination reports, service tickets, DVIRs, maintenance records, and other required documentation.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, operations, customers, and vendors.
- Report accidents, injuries, equipment failures, or safety concerns immediately.
- Attend weekly safety meetings, operational briefings, and required training sessions.
- Follow all company, DOT, OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL)
- Current DOT Medical Card
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Clean PSP preferred
- Stable work history
- Ability to pass DOT drug screen and background check
- Must successfully complete a road test
- Must be at least 23 years old with two years of verifiable tractor-trailer experience
- Must be at least 21 years old with one year of tractor-trailer experience and be a graduate of an accredited CDL school or have one year of military driving experience.
- No DUI/DWI convictions within the past three years.
- No DOT Drug & Alcohol violations within the past three years.
- Must reside within the designated hiring area.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficiently to comply with DOT regulations.
- Experience operating open-top dump trailers
- Previous route driving experience
- Experience hauling food waste, agricultural products, or bulk commodities
- Electronic Logging Device (ELD) experience (PeopleNet or similar)
- Hydraulic equipment knowledge
- Grapple truck or heavy equipment experience
- Waste, recycling, transportation, or environmental services experience
- Safe operation of manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles
- Excellent time management and route planning
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment inspections
- Basic computer, smartphone, and tablet proficiency
- Ability to safely work around hydraulic systems and heavy equipment
This position is physically demanding and requires the ability to:
- Regularly lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver up to 75-pound totes
- Frequently climb on and off trucks and trailers
- Crawl underneath trucks and trailers to inspect slack adjusters, brakes, suspension components, and air systems
- Bend, kneel, squat, twist, stoop, and reach throughout the workday
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, humidity, and dusty environments
- Work safely around moving equipment and heavy machinery
- Tolerate strong odors associated with food waste, grease, farms, and organic recycling operations
- Safely enter and exit commercial vehicles numerous times during each shift
- Perform repetitive physical tasks while maintaining safe work practices
