Position SummaryReporting to the K–8 Assistant Directors, the Reading Specialist is responsible for overseeing and delivering Mystic Valley's reading intervention program for students requiring additional literacy support. The Reading Specialist works primarily with students in Grades K–6, with the possibility of serving students through Grade 8, providing targeted intervention to students performing below grade level or identified as at risk in reading and language development.
This role requires analyzing student performance data, identifying students in need of intervention, implementing evidence-based instructional strategies, and collaborating closely with classroom teachers and families to ensure student growth and academic success.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide targeted reading intervention to students identified as at risk or performing below grade level.
- Analyze internal assessments and external assessment data to identify students who require reading intervention.
- Develop and implement individualized instructional plans designed to accelerate student achievement.
- Maintain fidelity to school-approved instructional programs, including Direct Instruction and Core Knowledge.
- Collaborate with fellow Reading Specialists, classroom teachers, and administrators to ensure consistency of instruction and student support.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for families of students receiving reading services and communicate student progress throughout the year.
- Prepare quarterly progress reports to accompany report cards for students receiving reading intervention services.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other meetings as needed.
- Continuously monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on assessment data.
- Provide intervention services to newly identified or newly enrolled students throughout the school year.
- Perform additional duties that support school operations as assigned by the Assistant Directors.
- Bachelor's degree required; Reading Specialist licensure or specialization preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in reading intervention or a related educational role preferred.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based literacy instruction and reading intervention practices.
- Experience interpreting assessment data and using data to guide instruction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations related to special education and reading intervention.
- Ability to plan and implement instruction that meets the diverse needs of learners.
- Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL requirements within one year of employment.
This is a full-time, annual appointment subject to yearly evaluation.
