Position Summary:
The Research Ophthalmic Technician is primarily responsible for performing ophthalmology tasks in accordance with study protocols, sponsor requirements, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. The ideal candidate has experience performing a wide variety of ophthalmology tasks and has an interest in a long-term career within clinical research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform high-quality OCT imaging according to study-specific protocols.
- Prepare participants for ophthalmic imaging procedures.
- Ensure all imaging meets sponsor quality standards prior to participant departure.
- Upload, label, and maintain imaging files in accordance with study requirements.
- Maintain and calibrate ophthalmology equipment.
- Administer ophthalmic solutions such as artificial tears, dilating solutions, and prescriptions.
- Assist investigators and clinical research staff during participant visits.
- Accurately document procedures and maintain source documentation.
- Ensure compliance with protocol requirements, GCP, HIPAA, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively with Clinical Research Coordinators regarding participant flow and scheduling.
- Participate in sponsor training as required.
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and image quality.
- Excellent interpersonal and patient communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate in both Spanish and English.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years as an Ophthalmic Technician, Ophthalmic Assistant, or Ophthalmic Photographer.
- Experience performing Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), fundus photography, electroretinography, IOP measurements, Amsler grids, visual field testing, corneal topography, etc.
- Previous experience in clinical research preferred.
Role will require reimbursed local travel to Sweetwater, Coral Gables, and Palmetto Bay.
