Job Title: Lead Custodian & Facilities Maintenance Specialist
Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Hourly Pay Range: $22.00 to $23.00
Hours: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Monday – Friday), with occasional scheduled evening hours for
school events.
Reports To: School Operations Director
Contract Length: 11 months, July 2026 to June 2027

Job Summary
The Lead Custodian & Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring our students and staff have a safe, clean, and fully operational learning environment. This role blends daily cleaning routines with proactive building maintenance, minor repairs, and event setups. We are looking for a reliable, self-motivated individual who takes pride in the physical school community.
Key Responsibilities1/ Facility Maintenance & Minor Repairs
- Perform routine, light maintenance tasks such as replacing ceiling tiles, changing light bulbs/LED ballasts, and swapping out HVAC air filters.
- Handle minor plumbing issues (unclogging toilets/sinks, fixing minor leaks) and minor carpentry or drywall patching.
- Identify and report major maintenance needs or safety hazards to administration.
- Maintain an organized inventory of tools, hardware, and equipment.
2/ Custodial & Sanitation
- Clean, sanitize, and restock student and staff restrooms daily.
- Maintain cleanliness in common areas, including hallways, main offices, and the cafeteria/multipurpose room during and after lunch periods.
- Manage daily trash and recycling removal from classrooms and common spaces.
- Operate commercial cleaning equipment (vacuums, floor scrubbers/buffers) when necessary.
- Respond promptly to emergency cleanups during the school day (spills, accidents).
3/ Groundskeeping & Security
- Maintain clean and safe exterior pathways, including picking up litter, sweeping entryways, and managing ice/snow removal from sidewalks during winter weather.
- Assist in opening or securing the building, ensuring doors are locked and windows are shut at the conclusion of the shift.
4/ Event Support & Logistics
- Set up and arrange furniture, stages, or AV carts for school assemblies, staff meetings, and special evening events.
- Provide custodial support during scheduled evening events and handle the post-event cleanup.
- Assist with receiving and moving heavy shipments, large packages, or furniture deliveries.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience in commercial cleaning, custodial work, or building maintenance (experience in a school environment is a plus).
- Skills: Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, chemical safety (MSDS sheets), and safe operation of basic hand and power tools.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50–75 lbs frequently. Comfortable climbing ladders, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check and fingerprinting (required for working around children).
