Position Overview
The Manager, Facilities plays a key role in caring for the venues, building systems, and operational spaces that keep our organization running. Across our two iconic and unique performance venues, this role helps ensure our buildings are safe, functional, well maintained, and ready for the artists, patrons, staff, clients, and community members who move through them.
Working in collaboration with the Manager, Building Operations, the Manager, Facilities helps lead daily facility operations across the organization’s venues, including building systems, preventative maintenance, inspections, contractor coordination, event-related facility support, and timely response to operational needs.
The ideal candidate is experienced, accountable, and energetic, with the technical knowledge, judgment, and presence to provide hands-on, onsite leadership in a high-volume venue environment where priorities can shift quickly. This is not a Monday to Friday, 9-to-5 desk job. Evening and weekend work will be required, along with regular movement throughout multiple venues and the ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Operations, Maintenance & Building Systems
• Oversee daily facility operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair across the organization’s venues.
• Support the safe and effective operation of key building systems, including HVAC, steam and Deep Lake Water Cooling systems, building automation, electrical distribution, lighting, emergency power, plumbing, water treatment, fire and life safety systems, and vertical transportation.
• Oversee preventative maintenance programs, building and equipment inspections, and timely follow-up on identified issues.
• Support the maintenance and repair of building structures, finishes, hardware, grounds, waste management, and environmental programs.
• Ensure facility operations comply with applicable federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, codes, standards, and organizational policies.
Leadership, Safety & Event Support
• Provide leadership to the Building Operations team, supporting clear communication, accountability, safe work practices, and effective service delivery.
• Coordinate facility support for event activity across the organization’s venues and respond safely and responsibly to building failures, urgent facility issues, operational requests, and event-related needs.
• Support scheduling, payroll administration, daily briefings, monthly meetings, recruitment, onboarding, training, performance reviews, coaching, and resolution of departmental issues.
• Develop and implement departmental Standard Operating Procedures, risk identification, escalation, and practical solutions that protect people, property, and continuity of operations.
Budgets, Projects & Contractor Management
• Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors and suppliers, ensuring work is completed safely, effectively, and in alignment with operational needs.
• Support contract management, service agreements, supplier relationships, contractor performance, project planning, tendering, and execution.
• Monitor departmental budgets and support cost control without compromising safety, service, or operational quality.
• Communicate effectively with management, staff, tenants, contractors, clients, patrons, and event personnel, and work collaboratively across departments to support the Corporation’s mission, values, objectives, and high standard of venue care.
Qualifications
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in building operations management, preferably in the entertainment, events, hospitality, or venue operations sector.
• Proven experience leading teams with fairness, accountability, ethics, and integrity, including coaching, training, and performance support.
• Experience coordinating projects, supporting tendering processes, and managing work through planning, execution, and follow-up.
• Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, codes, and standards, including the Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and relevant industrial and construction standards.
• Comfortable working with building automation systems, mechanical systems, and other core building infrastructure.
• Ability to read and navigate architectural, mechanical, and technical drawings.
• Strong judgment, problem-solving, decision-making, prioritization, and time management skills, especially during events, urgent facility issues, or competing operational demands.
• Ability to research technical challenges, propose practical solutions, and support implementation through to measurable results.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong service orientation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related administrative tools.

Work Conditions
• Hands-on, onsite role requiring regular movement throughout multiple venues, including front-of-house, back-of-house, mechanical, technical, and administrative areas.
• Travel between venues will be required on an ongoing basis.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and rotating on-call coverage for after-hours emergencies.
• Work may involve standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights, working in confined spaces, and working around mechanical systems, tools, equipment, noise, dust, and active event environments.
• Manual dexterity required to use desktop computers, mobile devices, radios, tools, equipment, and related peripherals.
• Interacts regularly with staff, management, contractors, suppliers, tenants, clients, patrons, and event personnel by telephone, email, radio, and in-person.
Additional Information: This role is based in Toronto and requires on-site presence at Massey Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, and Allied Music Centre. Some evening and weekend availability will be required depending on event schedules.
