Job Description
Job Title: Dispatcher
Location: Hutto, TX
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Reports To: Operations Manager / Dispatch Supervisor
Compensation: $18 - 20/hr
Position Summary
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and scheduling the movement of vehicles and/or field personnel to ensure safe, timely, and efficient service. This position receives and prioritizes incoming calls and service requests, communicates with drivers/technicians and customers, and maintains accurate, real‑time records using dispatch software, phone, and radio systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Receive and respond to incoming phone calls, emails, and electronic service requests.
Evaluate and prioritize calls based on urgency, location, and resource availability.
Assign and dispatch drivers/technicians/field staff to jobs and service calls.
Use dispatch or routing software, GPS, and mapping tools to plan and adjust routes.
Monitor job and trip status throughout the day; follow up to confirm completion.
Communicate clear instructions, directions, and updates to field personnel.
Provide customers with updates on estimated arrival times, delays, and service status.
Document all calls, assignments, times, incidents, and changes in the dispatch system.
Escalate accidents, safety concerns, or service disruptions to management as needed.
Coordinate with other departments (e.g., maintenance, customer service, billing) to resolve issues.
Follow company policies, procedures, and safety rules at all times.
Prepare and distribute daily/shift reports and logs as required.
Support coverage for other dispatchers and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Previous experience in dispatch, logistics, transportation, call‑center, or customer service preferred.
Experience with dispatch or routing software is helpful.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong verbal communication and active‑listening skills.
Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous in high‑pressure or time‑sensitive situations.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, calls, and priorities at once.
Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of email and web‑based applications.
Ability to learn and effectively use dispatch software, GPS, and mapping tools.
Familiarity with the local geographic area or ability to learn it quickly.
Strong problem‑solving skills and sound judgment.
Schedule and Work Environment
Typical schedule: 8‑hour shifts between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., schedule varies by week.
May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on operational needs.
Work is performed primarily in an office/dispatch center environment using a computer, multi‑line phone, and/or two‑way radio.
The position involves extended periods of sitting and frequent use of a keyboard, mouse, and headset.

Licenses, Certifications, and Background Checks
Valid driver’s license may be required, depending on company needs.

Compensation and Benefits
