Online Teacher, CS: Intro to Java

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Online Teacher, CS: Intro to Java based in Canada.

Join a dynamic online learning environment where you'll introduce high school students to the foundations of computer science through Java programming. In this fully remote role, you'll deliver engaging live lessons that build coding skills, computational thinking, and problem-solving abilities in an interactive virtual classroom. You'll work with motivated learners from around the world while leveraging modern educational technology, structured curriculum resources, and collaborative teaching practices. Accountabilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality live online lessons in introductory Java programming, tailoring instruction to the needs of a diverse international group of high school students.
  • Foster an interactive and supportive virtual classroom by using a variety of digital teaching tools, coding exercises, and collaborative learning strategies.
  • Assess student understanding through assignments, coding projects, quizzes, and examinations while providing timely, constructive feedback to promote continuous improvement.
  • Develop structured lesson plans, course schedules, assessment timelines, and instructional materials that support consistent student progress throughout the course.
  • Design meaningful programming exercises and practical coding assignments that strengthen students' understanding of programming fundamentals and object-oriented concepts.
  • Maintain an organized online classroom through the learning management system, ensuring students have easy access to course materials, assignments, and learning resources.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to enhance curriculum resources, share best practices, and contribute to continuous improvements in online teaching and student engagement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of high school (Grades 9–12) classroom teaching experience in a school setting; tutoring experience alone does not satisfy this requirement.
  • Strong understanding of Java programming fundamentals, object-oriented programming principles, and introductory computer science concepts.
  • Familiarity with the US high school curriculum and, where applicable, related academic standards and assessments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and academic colleagues.
  • Experience using online teaching platforms and confidence integrating technology into live virtual instruction.
  • Strong lesson planning, classroom management, assessment design, and student mentoring skills.
  • A recognized teaching qualification, teaching license, or postgraduate teaching credential is preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching in an online learning environment is considered a strong advantage.
