Job Description

Summary:

To support the growth and financial success of Sarnova by leading the technical and G/L accounting function. To foster growth in the organization’s capacity while instilling a sense of accountability in all team members. To identify opportunities to improve the quality of our financial reporting and to execute changes to capture those opportunities. To create a work environment in which your team embraces a service orientation to both internal and external contacts. To ensure that the appropriate systems and controls are in place to adequately protect company assets.

Organizational Impact:

The impact to the organization is to have consistently accurate internal (IFRS) and external (US GAAP) financials that are generated on time and in a manner consistent with respective IFRS and US GAAP guidelines. This role will be instrumental in the recording and safeguarding of company assets including inventory, capital investments and Rewards type program involvement and management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to your staff. Ensure that they clearly understand what is expected of them and how they contribute to the success of the business
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement procedures to improve organization and efficiency of departmental processes
  • Identify and create the internal metrics in which the success of the Accounting team will be measured. Implement the reporting capabilities to ensure timely and accurate reporting of actual results of these metrics
  • Lead the establishment and improvement of competency across your responsibilities. This includes ensuring that we are adequately staffed (number of people), with experienced and skilled personnel (right people) with the right direction and leadership (strong managers)
  • Respond and resolve employee relations issues expressed by team members; create and maintain high quality work environment so team members are motivated to perform at their highest level
  • Leads and directs employees, including assigning, monitoring, and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts, and providing technical guidance on more complex issues; provides training and daily work direction
  • Provides input into hiring decisions and annual performance reviews
  • Direct the day-to-day general accounting activities for Sarnova; including leading the monthly close process and the consolidation of business unit financials, ensuring financial statements are accurate and on time and that appropriate documentation exists for management estimates and accruals
  • Prepare and maintain complex accounting standards/work papers such as accounting for debt, equity incentive compensation, income tax provision, distribution partner accounting and committed-use programs
  • Ensure timely month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes and adherence to Company reporting deadlines
  • Lead the preparation for and the daily management of external audits. These audits include year-end financial statements and 401(k)
  • Consult with Purchasing, Credit/Collections, Warehouse, and Operations as needed to address issues
  • Develop mastery in the appropriate modules of the respective company ERP and Accounting systems, Great Plains and Microsoft Dynamics 365; serve as a coach to your team in these systems and to identify capabilities in the accounting system that we don’t fully utilize
  • Create an environment in the organization where the discipline to properly document policies and procedures is well ingrained, with orientation to improvement of internal controls
  • Additional job duties as assigned

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting
  • 3-5 years of experience in leading an accounting function or Manager level position in a public accounting firm
  • Certified as a CPA
  • Orientation towards service
  • Ability to create a vision of where you want the group to go, and the ability to communicate this in an engaging manner than enrolls your team in your plans
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Sense of accountability for the results of your team and yourself
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to assign appropriate time and effort to its completion
  • Strong sense of ethics, confidentiality and integrity
