Position Details

  • Position: Community Engagement Intern

  • Employment Type: Internship (Unpaid) — Eligible for Academic Credit

  • Department: Development

  • Reports To: Volunteer Manager

  • Location: Hybrid — Primarily based remotely or in-person at Admin office in Union City, GA with required travel between Wellspring Living sites, events, thrift stores, and community engagements

Schedule
  • Internship Duration: 3–6 Months

  • Weekly Commitment: 15-20 Hours per week

  • General: Participation in team meetings, volunteer activities, community events, speaking engagements, program events, and periodic travel between Wellspring Living locations as needed.

About the RoleThe Community Engagement Intern supports the Development Department across several areas of community engagement, including volunteer engagement, community outreach, communications, donor services, in-kind donations, and partnership development.

This role provides hands-on experience with the day-to-day operations that help a nonprofit build strong relationships with volunteers, donors, corporate partners, and the broader community. The intern will assist with volunteer recruitment and onboarding, maintain donor and volunteer records, support in-kind donation coordination, contribute to nonprofit communications, and assist with community engagement initiatives and events.

The Community Engagement Intern will also have opportunities to collaborate with members of the Development team and other Wellspring Living departments, gaining a broad understanding of how different teams work together to advance a nonprofit's mission.

Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity Communications & EngagementGain practical experience supporting Wellspring Living's community-facing communications and engagement efforts.

  • Assist with managing social media content, partnership highlights, and community-focused communications.

  • Analyze trends and engagement on Wellspring Living's Facebook page and compile findings for the Development team.

  • Analyze trends and performance within Wellspring Living's e-communications.

  • Maintain Constant Contact contact lists and support email communication processes.

  • Research influencer engagement and identify opportunities to increase awareness and community engagement across Wellspring Living's social media platforms.

  • Assist with social media strategy and content for Wellspring Living thrift stores.

  • Support communications and promotional efforts related to volunteer opportunities, campaigns, events, and community initiatives.


Volunteer Engagement & ManagementDevelop hands-on experience supporting the volunteer lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through service and appreciation.

  • Support volunteer program operations, including onboarding and service data collection.

  • Assist with maintaining volunteer records within the online application system.

  • Gain experience tracking background checks, training compliance, and required volunteer documentation.

  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement Team to create and distribute volunteer opportunities and recruitment initiatives.

  • Assist with volunteer communications, scheduling, and engagement activities.

  • Support efforts to recognize and appreciate volunteers and strengthen long-term volunteer relationships.


In-Kind Donations & Donor ServicesGain practical experience in donor stewardship, in-kind donation coordination, inventory management, and nonprofit database administration.

  • Assist with documenting, organizing, sorting, and distributing in-kind donations.

  • Assist with tracking in-kind donations and maintaining organizational wishlists on platforms such as Amazon and Purposity.

  • Help prepare donated items for delivery to Wellspring Living programs and participants.

  • Maintain donor records in Salesforce and make account updates as needed.

  • Follow up with donors to obtain required documentation and provide appreciation for donated items.

  • Research potential corporate and community partnerships to increase in-kind donations.

  • Assist with planning and executing gift-giving and donation campaigns.

  • Support accurate documentation and organization of donor and donation information.


Cross-Functional Collaboration & Community SupportGain exposure to the broader operations of a nonprofit organization by working alongside Development staff and other Wellspring Living teams.

  • Collaborate with members of the Development and Community Engagement teams on projects and initiatives.

  • Attend program participant graduations and other program events when appropriate.

  • Attend awareness events and community speaking engagements with Development staff.

  • Assist with prospect and partner meetings when appropriate.

  • Get to know other Wellspring Living departments and gain an understanding of how teams collaborate to advance the organization's mission.

  • Provide administrative and project support on additional Development initiatives as assigned.


Qualifications
Required
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, social work, media, retail management, business, or a related field.

  • Strong passion for nonprofit work and alignment with Wellspring Living's faith-centered mission, vision, and core values.

  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.

  • Strong research and analytical abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.

  • Self-starter with strong time management skills.

  • Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively.

  • Reliable transportation, with the ability to travel between Wellspring Living locations and community events as needed.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Outlook.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs.


Preferred
  • Experience assisting with the coordination, tracking, or stewardship of in-kind donations.

  • Interest or experience in volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement, or appreciation.

  • Experience with Canva Pro.

  • Experience with Salesforce or another CRM/donor management system.

  • Familiarity with social media management and digital communications.

  • Experience supporting community events, outreach initiatives, or nonprofit programs.

Internship Requirements

Internship placement is contingent upon successfully completing standard background clearances:

  • Criminal background check determination as required by state law.

  • Verification of professional and personal references.

  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.

Physical & Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift and move equipment or event supplies up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to sit at a computer and design digital media for extended periods.

  • Moderate local travel required between metro Atlanta sites for event coverage, meetings, and program content capture.
