The Managed Payroll Specialist will provide end-to-end payroll support for a portfolio of customers in a fast-paced, service-focused environment.
You will manage multiple clients and competing deadlines while ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll delivery.
The role combines payroll expertise, customer service, troubleshooting, and Workday configuration responsibilities.
You will serve as a trusted point of contact for customer questions, escalations, and complex payroll issues.
The position also contributes to year-end activities, payroll audits, process improvements, and special projects.
Success requires strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, ownership, and the ability to collaborate across teams.

- Manage end-to-end payroll support for assigned managed payroll and payroll administration customers, while providing additional support across payroll, tax, and garnishment services when needed.
- Monitor and resolve customer cases within established service-level agreements, maintaining high standards of accuracy, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction.
- Handle escalated payroll issues, conduct root cause analyses, document findings, and implement corrective or preventive actions to address recurring issues.
- Lead recurring weekly, monthly, and quarterly customer calls, and participate in client transitions and cross-functional service meetings.
- Configure basic to moderately complex Workday payroll elements, including pay components, deductions, and run categories.
- Support payroll year-end activities, including troubleshooting audit reports, W-2 adjustments, and other year-end requirements.
- Research payroll issues, analyze data, identify discrepancies, and provide practical recommendations to customers.
- Maintain accurate payroll service documentation and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and customer support practices.
- Collaborate closely with peers, customer teams, and internal stakeholders to resolve requests and deliver consistent payroll services.
- Meet established quality, productivity, and service performance metrics while managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- Contribute to special projects and process improvements, remaining open to new technologies, procedures, and operational approaches.
- Associate's degree required; additional education or relevant professional experience in payroll is advantageous.
- At least 3 years of payroll experience, including end-to-end processing, payroll research, payroll logic, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- At least 3 years of customer service or customer-facing experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage professional client relationships.
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, payroll taxes, compliance requirements, and multi-jurisdiction payroll operations.
- Experience supporting payroll year-end activities, W-2 processing, adjustments, and related reporting requirements.
- Intermediate experience with payroll configuration, preferably within Workday or a comparable payroll platform.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, with strong data entry, analytical, research, and reporting capabilities.
- Excellent critical-thinking, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain payroll matters clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple customers, competing priorities, and tight deadlines while exercising sound independent judgment and maintaining a strong sense of urgency.
- Self-directed and collaborative working style, with the ability to build effective relationships across customer and internal teams.
- Experience in an outsourcing environment involving payroll, tax, Workday, or Salesforce is preferred.
