Position Summary:

The Staff accountant for the ASU System Foundation is responsible for assisting in the support of the financial operations, accounting processes, and reporting functions of the Foundation. This position ensures accurate financial record-keeping, compliance with applicable standards and policies, and timely financial reporting to support the mission of the Foundation and the broader Arkansas State University System. This position is needed to assist with software/systems implementations and optimization, data entry, accounting support, process improvement efforts and related policy and procedure updates.

The staff accountant will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Foundation President to maintain integrity in all financial transactions, support audit readiness, and assist with budgeting, reconciliation, and donor fund accounting.

The staff accountant is expected to adhere to high ethical as well as professional standards in serving the financial management needs of the Foundation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with accounting data entry

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP and Foundation policies

  • Ensure proper classification and tracking of restricted, unrestricted, and endowment funds

  • Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and subsidiary ledgers

  • Process journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries as needed

  • Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis

  • Support compliance with IRS regulations applicable to nonprofit organizations.

  • Review and process Foundation-related disbursements and reimbursements

  • Assist with ad hoc reporting and fund research

  • Assist with audit and tax preparation

  • Assist with account clean-up/analysis

  • Own AP process

  • Assist with new accounting and donor management software systems implementation and data testing

  • Assist in the establishment of reporting fund groups and reports in the new accounting system

  • Assist in updating Foundation Policies and Procedures

  • Assist in financial reporting for board meetings and executive leadership meetings

  • Provide any and all possible support as requested by various campus advancement teams

  • Other duties as assigned

Advanced and relatable knowledge of computer accounting technology and reporting software
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
Understanding of confidentiality requirements related to financial and donor data
Generate financial reports and improve reporting efforts
Flexible and good with ambiguity

A willingness to contribute, assist with a variety of responsibilities, and step in where organizational needs are greatest is essential.

ORGANIZATION INFORMATION:
The Arkansas State University System Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation duly chartered by the state of Arkansas in 1977 to operate for the benefit and advancement of the Arkansas State University System and its related entities. The primary purpose of the Foundation is to receive, solicit, accept and hold, administer, invest and disburse any and every kind of property for such education, scientific, literary, research and service activities from individuals and organizations, including foundations, government agencies, and private businesses, to support the Corporations activities, and it shall manage endowments given to the Corporation for the benefit of all the Arkansas State University System campuses operations, sites and facilities. The Foundation is the primary entity for receipting, acknowledging, accounting for, managing and investing endowment funds. The ASU System Foundation office is located on the Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. With a minimum of 3 years of professional accounting experience (nonprofit or higher education foundation experience preferred).

Strong documented knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), with knowledge of fund accounting principles preferred. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, is required.
