Engineering Intern in Nashville, Tennessee at Fickett Structural Solutions

The Engineering Intern is a hands-on learning role designed to support and develop future engineers. This position will work alongside a collaborative team to assist with structural inspections and reporting for bridges, buildings, and other infrastructure. This role provides real-world experience in the field and in the office, including documenting findings and working with engineering drawings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform structural inspections of bridges, culverts, dams, buildings, and ancillary structures throughout the United States
• Create inspection reports based on inspection findings
• Review and interpret shop drawings and verify/compare shop drawings to field conditions
• Support additional duties and responsibilities assigned

• Work is performed in both field and office environments
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner with limited supervision
• Field work may include working at heights, near traffic, and in active construction areas
• Use of access equipment such as lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and rope access is required
• Adherence to all Fickett safety procedures and protocols is essential

Required Qualifications:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited college
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Comfortable working at heights utilizing rope access, lifts, ladders, and scaffolding
• Ability to navigate bridge and construction sites, including uneven terrain
• Ability to travel up to 25% annually including consecutive overnight stays

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous co-op or internship experience with a Department of Transportation (DOT) or bridge inspection project
• Drafting experience
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and shop drawings
