POSITION SUMMARY

The RN Nursing Unit Manager provides clinical and operational leadership for the skilled nursing unit of the community, supporting high-quality, resident-centered care and a positive experience for residents, families, and team members. Working closely with the Director of Nursing, this role leads day-to-day nursing operations, supports and develops the clinical team, coordinates resident care, and helps ensure compliance with applicable regulations and community standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day nursing services for residents within the assigned unit.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to nurses, CNAs, unit clerks, and other support team members.
  • Coordinate staffing and nursing assignments to support resident needs and effective unit operations.
  • Promote high standards of resident care, dignity, safety, and service.
  • Support resident assessments, care planning, documentation, and assigned portions of the MDS process.
  • Review clinical documentation and help ensure care is delivered in accordance with resident needs, preferences, and established care plans.
  • Partner with the DON/ADON, nursing team, medical staff, families, and other departments to address resident needs and changes in condition.
  • Coach and develop team members while encouraging training, accountability, teamwork, and professional growth.
  • Help maintain appropriate medications, medical supplies, and equipment for the unit.
  • Support quality improvement, infection prevention, survey readiness, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Step into direct nursing care as needed to support residents and the clinical team.
Requirements:

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Current and active RN license meeting applicable state requirements.
  • Current CPR certification.

Experience, Competencies, and Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct-care nursing experience in long-term care, restorative care, geriatrics, or a related setting.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing management experience.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to make sound, independent decisions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and support clinical teams.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to navigate challenging conversations professionally.
  • Collaborative, resident-focused approach with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to work within electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, or additional hours when resident and community needs require.
