Medical Records Clerk

Location: Huntsville, AL (Redstone Arsenal / NASA Marshall Space Flight Center)

Brown Technologies is currently seeking a detail-oriented, service-driven Medical Records Clerk to support an Occupational Health Clinic serving the government and civilian workforce at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. In this role, you will do more than manage medical records – you will help keep essential occupational health services running smoothly for the people powering NASA's mission. From maintaining confidential patient records and coordinating appointments to supporting clinic healthcare professionals, your accuracy, organization, and commitment to patient care will make a meaningful difference every day.

DESCRIPTION:

The Medical Records Clerk plays a crucial role in maintaining and managing patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational standards. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing, storing, and retrieving of medical records to ensure patient information is accessible to healthcare professionals when needed. The Medical Records Clerk also ensures that all medical documentation is kept confidential and secure in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and other applicable laws and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to a positive, patient-focused environment providing occupational and preventative health care to an aerospace industrial government and civilian workforce.
  • Organize, file, and maintain patient medical records, both electronic and paper-based, ensuring they are complete, accurate, and up to date.
  • Input patient information into electronic health record (EHR) systems with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and ensure all patient data is stored securely in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Support a multi-functional occupational medical services clinic by organizing and managing patients' healthcare information.
  • Process electronic medical appointment requests from initial scheduling through completion, including data entry into multiple computer systems.
  • Prepare and validate clinic schedules, make schedule changes, and distribute final daily clinic schedules.
  • Determine examination elements required for medical certification and annotate employee health records as necessary.
  • Issue authorized completed medical job certifications to employers through the appropriate electronic systems.
  • Coordinate clinic treatment support for nurses, attending physicians, and nurse practitioners.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of clinic operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clinic staff, patients, and customers.
  • Demonstrated integrity and sound judgment in handling confidential patient information.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and computer systems, including electronic health record (EHR) and scheduling applications.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods and occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Travel: Minimal; occasional irregular hours may be required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a NASA/federal facility badge and complete a background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with medical records maintenance and processing and clinic reception operations.
  • Experience supporting an occupational health or federal/government clinic environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and clearly communicate information containing detailed medical and scientific terminology, both verbally and in writing.
  • Adaptable and open to new ideas, processes, and technologies in a changing clinic environment.
