Job Description

MATRIX is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Professional to support a facility construction project in Lebanon, Indiana. The client is performing a broader general contractor role on this project, requiring safety support across multiple construction disciplines, subcontractors, and concurrent work activities.
This individual will provide daily field safety oversight, working closely with leadership, field supervision, craft personnel, subcontractors, and client safety representatives. The successful candidate will maintain a strong field presence, identify and address hazards, reinforce safe work practices, and help ensure construction and equipment installation activities meet applicable safety requirements and project expectations.
DURATION:6 months with possible extension
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 to 60 hours p/w M-F Rotational Saturday work
LOCATION: Lebanon, IN
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBLITIES: 
  • Conduct daily field inspections and safety observations; document findings and track corrective actions through completion.
  • Coordinate safety expectations with client supervision, subcontractors, and client safety personnel.
  • Review job hazard analyses, pre-task plans, and work methods to ensure hazards are identified and appropriate controls are established.
  • Monitor changing field conditions and overlapping contractor activities to identify emerging risks.
  • Provide safety oversight for crane operations, rigging, equipment movement, and installation activities, including exclusion zones and protection from suspended loads.
  • Monitor safe work practices associated with elevated work, fall protection, scaffolding, mobile equipment, hot work, energy isolation, confined spaces, and excavations, as applicable.
  • Support site orientations, toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ongoing worker coaching.
  • Address unsafe conditions and behaviors promptly; exercise stop-work authority in accordance with site procedures and support safe work resumption.
  • Participate in construction planning and coordination meetings to address safety risks associated with sequencing, congestion, access, and site logistics.
  • Support incident and near-miss reporting, investigations, and development of corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, and corrective action logs.
  • Communicate significant safety concerns and recurring trends to client and client leadership.
  • Support emergency preparedness, housekeeping, and worker health measures appropriate to project conditions.
  • Reinforce compliance with applicable safety requirements and client policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience providing field health and safety support on industrial or large construction projects.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple contractors, craft disciplines, and field supervisors.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety requirements, hazard recognition, job hazard analysis, and incident prevention.
  • Familiarity with hazards and controls associated with crane operations, rigging, elevated work, mobile equipment, and industrial equipment installation.
  • Ability to address unsafe conditions professionally and maintain productive relationships with field personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience maintaining safety documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety reporting tools.
  • Ability to perform regular field walkdowns and work the required on-site schedule.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Five or more years of construction safety experience.
  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical facility construction or other large industrial builds.
  • Experience supporting a general contractor and coordinating safety across multiple subcontractors.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction training.
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, or other relevant safety credentials.
  • Degree in occupational health and safety or a related discipline, or equivalent field experience.
  • Current first aid, CPR, and AED training.

CompensationThe base pay range for this role is $68 – $72 per hour.
