Description:

Without technical supervision, performs the most complex machining and fitting of all kinds of parts, tools, and machines in support of production operations. Lays out work from blueprints, sketches, and written specifications. Sets up and operates all available machine tools and performs progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements. Determines operation sequences. Uses skillfully all machinists' hand tools and measuring instruments. Familiar with working properties of all materials. Programs CNC machine tools in the course of making parts. Fits and assembles where necessary. At this level machinists serve as technical resources for less experienced machinists. May set up machines for and instruct other operators. Checks parts for conformance to specifications. May run more than one machine simultaneously.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Proven skills and knowledge of setup and operating CNC mills. 5+ years required as setup and CNC Machinist.

· Experience with Brother, Mori Seiki, Fadal mills using Fanuc controls

· Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.

· Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.

· Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.

· Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

· Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.

· Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.

· Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.

· Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.

· Confers with quality, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

· Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.

· Machines materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber.

· Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.

· Performs machine maintenance

DUTIES AND TASKS

Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Ensures that all details of a task are accomplished properly.

SUPERVISION GIVEN AND RECEIVED

Setup fixtures, machines and programs in machines and demonstrate on the job training to operators including verification methods and offsets.

Assists department lead in daily direction of work and communicates to operators.

Works under minimum supervision. Assignments are received in the form of results expected, due dates and general procedures to follow.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills/ Knowledge:

Possesses all basic and some advanced skills and knowledge. Has a thorough understanding of the total process flow.

Language Ability:

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

· Ability to read and write required. English is preferred. Bi-lingual Spanish a plus.

Math Ability:

· Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

· Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.

· Ability to calculate figures and amounts.

· Basic math understanding.

Reasoning Ability:

· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

· Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

· Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

· Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Suite

· Microsoft Office Xcel, Word helpful.

Certificates and Licenses:

· None required.

Education:

· High School diploma or GED desired.

Work Environment:

· Machine shop environment.

· Machine noise.

· Working with coolant and oils and other chemicals as needed.

Physical Demands:

· Must be able to stand for 8 hours while working at the machine center.

· Lift up to 50 lbs.
