Job Description

Description:

About the Role

KennMar currently outsources its IT operations to a third-party managed service provider (MSP), which handles help desk support, network and systems administration, cybersecurity, data backup, and technology strategy across our offices. This role is designed to bring that function in-house, giving KennMar a dedicated IT professional who knows our team, our systems, and our priorities day to day.

KennMar has roughly 290 employees and growing, encompassing KennMar, KennMar Construction, EleXcor, Mother Plumber, and Benge's Hardware. This role reports to the Head of HR but the IT Manager will own the full technology function across this group — from day-to-day end-user support to cybersecurity posture, vendor relationships, and technology planning.

Key Responsibilities

Help Desk & End-User Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all IT support requests across KennMar's offices, resolving hardware, software, account, and connectivity issues.
  • Triage and prioritize issues (critical outages vs. routine requests), aiming for prompt response on business-critical problems and same-day resolution on standard tickets.
  • Onboard and offboard employee technology (accounts, hardware provisioning, and secure deprovisioning).

Systems & Network Administration

  • Maintain and monitor servers, workstations, and network infrastructure (routers, firewalls, switches, and wireless access points) across all sites.
  • Manage patching and maintenance schedules for operating systems and business-critical software to keep systems current and secure.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace and other core business applications, including licensing and user access.
  • Maintain secure remote access, password management tooling, and system monitoring/alerting.

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

  • Own KennMar's day-to-day security posture: endpoint detection and response (EDR/antivirus), multi-factor authentication enforcement, and secure password practices.
  • Run (or manage a vendor for) ongoing security awareness training and phishing simulations for all employees.
  • Coordinate periodic vulnerability scanning and act on findings; maintain basic incident response procedures (containment, eradication, and reporting) for security events.
  • Keep KennMar aligned with relevant data security and compliance expectations as the business requires.

Backup, Continuity & Disaster Recovery

  • Manage backup solutions for servers, workstations, and cloud data (e.g., Microsoft 365/Google Workspace backup), and regularly verify recoverability.
  • Maintain a documented disaster recovery and business continuity plan for KennMar's technology environment.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Serve as KennMar's single point of contact for all technology-related vendors (internet service providers, software vendors, hardware suppliers, and any specialized outsourced security or compliance partners).
  • Evaluate, negotiate, and manage vendor contracts and renewals to ensure KennMar gets cost-effective, reliable service.

IT Strategy, Governance & Budget

  • Advise leadership on technology investments, replacing today's outsourced strategic consulting function with in-house recommendations on IT roadmap, budget, and risk.
  • Maintain an accurate hardware/software asset inventory, warranty tracking, and a central IT documentation repository.
  • Lead technology projects such as new site setups, hardware refreshes, and application rollouts, from planning through deployment.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on IT experience covering help desk/desktop support, network administration, and systems administration (Windows required; macOS a plus).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, endpoint security tools, and backup solutions.
  • Practical understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals: MFA, endpoint protection, phishing/security awareness, and basic incident response.
  • Comfortable being the sole IT resource — able to prioritize independently, communicate clearly with non-technical staff, and manage outside vendors.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a genuine customer-service mindset-patient and approachable with employees at every level of technical comfort
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to all of our entities as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+/Security+, Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, or ITIL Foundation.
  • Prior experience transitioning an organization off a managed service provider (MSP) or building an internal IT function from scratch.
  • Familiarity with tools such as RMM/remote monitoring platforms, SentinelOne or similar EDR, KnowBe4 or similar security awareness platforms, and Datto/Veeam/Azure backup solutions.
  • Experience supporting a small business, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization operating across multiple sites.
