Job Description

Position: Single Hand Welder

Location: Midland, TX

Salary: $27 - $32 per hour (non-exempt)

Direct Reports: None

Reporting Relationship: Production Manager

Travel Required: None

The Single Hand Welder reports to the Production Manager as a member of the Midland, TX production team. The production team is responsible for the construction of Platinum products with a high-level accuracy in a timely fashion. This position will cut and join metals and other materials at our facility. The Single Hand will operate appropriate welding equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. A welder must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions at all times.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures

• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements

• Set up components for welding according to specifications cut material with powered saws to match measurements

• Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded

• Align components using tape measures, clamps, etc.

• Accurately cut pipe to specific length, thread, and assemble based on drawings

• Weld pipe and apply appropriate welding techniques per code standards

• Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)

• Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps

• Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws per code standards

• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

• Adhere to all OSHA regulations while performing the job

• Perform other duties as required

Required Skills

• Proven experience as a code welder with a steady hand and great attention to detail

• Must be able to pass a 6G Welding test

• Must be able to pass NDE testing such as XRAY and Ultrasonic testing

• Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (MIG, SMAW, FCAW, etc.)

• Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, etc.)

• Ability to read and interpret technical documents, isometric drawings, and blueprints

• Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)

• Proficient in English

• Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is required

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

• Must be able to walk, sit, stand, climb, twist/turn, push/pull, squat, crawl/kneel, reach above shoulder.

• Must be able to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm movements.

• Average close/distance vision necessary in order to record data and operate equipment.

• Must be able to communicate effectively and be understood by others.

• Must be able to hear the various equipment in order to diagnose issues.

Required Experience

• Welding: 5 years is required

• Fabrication: 3 year is preferred

• High school or equivalent

• Shop or field welding experience per ASME and API codes

• Professional Welding Certification

• Knowledge of Industry Code experience B31.3, ASME Sec IX preferred
