Associate Director Payroll Technology

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate Director – Payroll Technology based in India.

This leadership role will oversee a global payroll technology landscape, combining strategic direction with hands-on ownership of system stability, production support, and continuous improvement. You will lead an offshore Payroll Technology team while partnering closely with Payroll Operations, HR, Finance, technology teams, and external vendors. The role offers significant scope across payroll platforms, integrations, enterprise architecture, data analytics, and large-scale transformation programs. You will help ensure reliable payroll operations while driving automation, cost optimization, and technology modernization. The position also involves supporting major deployments, testing, disaster recovery planning, and production readiness. It is an opportunity for an experienced payroll technology leader to influence enterprise-wide solutions and deliver scalable, high-quality services in a global environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the global payroll technology landscape, overseeing production support, system enhancements, reliability, and ongoing service performance.
  • Ensure the stability and availability of payroll systems while driving timely resolution of incidents, performance issues, and operational challenges.
  • Act as a strategic bridge between Payroll Operations, HR, Finance, Digital Technology, business stakeholders, and external technology partners.
  • Evaluate upstream and downstream impacts across HR, Payroll, Benefits, integrations, and connected enterprise systems.
  • Lead and manage the offshore Payroll Technology team, establishing priorities, allocating resources, monitoring delivery, and supporting team development.
  • Drive continuous improvement, automation, process optimization, and cost-efficiency initiatives across the payroll technology environment.
  • Support major project deployments, including go-live activities, end-to-end and regression testing, production readiness, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Partner with payroll technology vendors, including ADP, to coordinate delivery, resolve issues, and ensure solutions are operationally ready.
  • Apply strong knowledge of ADP GlobalView and other enterprise payroll platforms to support system strategy, operations, and transformation initiatives.
  • Participate in solution architecture and design reviews while ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide application standards and technology principles.
  • Support business customers and stakeholders during project deployments and technology-enabled payroll transformations.
  • Develop technical specifications and related documentation required for system enhancements, integrations, and project delivery.
  • Perform data analytics and reporting to support payroll technology performance, operational insights, and informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with vendors and business partners to investigate and resolve system performance, integration, and operational issues.
  • Participate in workshops focused on system design methodologies, deployment practices, and technology implementation standards.
  • Contribute to project lifecycle activities from planning and design through implementation, deployment, and post-production support.
Requirements:
  • 15+ years of experience in Payroll Technology, HRIS, enterprise systems, or closely related technology functions.
  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise payroll platforms such as ADP GlobalView, EV5, Workday, or comparable solutions.
  • Proven experience managing payroll technology production support and payroll operations in complex enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technology teams and manage cross-functional stakeholders across Payroll, HR, Finance, Technology, and business functions.
  • Experience delivering or supporting large-scale payroll implementations and transformation programs.
  • Strong understanding of system integrations, interfaces, data flows, and dependencies across HR, payroll, benefits, and enterprise applications.
  • Experience participating in solution architecture, application design reviews, technical specifications, and enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of project lifecycles, including planning, design, testing, deployment, go-live, and post-implementation support.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and geographic locations.
  • Ability to operate effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities, and resolve complex operational and technology issues.
  • Strong time-management, organizational, and self-motivation skills, with a proactive and accountable approach to delivery.
  • Self-starter mindset with adaptability, attention to detail, strategic thinking, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting within payroll or enterprise technology environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; a BS or BE degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with payroll software and enterprise HR technology solutions is preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered where appropriate.
