Position Overview:

The Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical and instrumentation systems in a chemical plant environment. This role includes working with high- and low-voltage equipment, PLC systems, and process instrumentation while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Technicians must be able to read schematics and P&IDs, perform physical labor, and support preventative maintenance and emergency response efforts as needed.

What you will be doing:

  • Repair, install & troubleshoot electronic & pneumatic instrumentation & control equipment, as well as electrical work from 24V up to services involving 2300V.
  • Attends daily meetings to receive and discuss priority and routine work orders.
  • Selects, installs, and operates measurement devices such as O2 Analyzer, infrared photometers, carbon monoxide analyzers, pH analyzer, valves, transmitters for level, pressure, temperature, and flow.
  • Communicate with unit operations to ensure work site has been prepared and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.
  • Inspect worksite to determine presence/root cause of obstruction or change in operational capabilities.
  • Communicates findings to supervisor and production supervisor as needed secondary to the nature of the problem, and the urgency of the repair to determine when planned maintenance will interfere with unit operations.
  • Assist in performing periodic preventive maintenance testing procedures on filters, various analyzers, leak testing, etc.
  • Performs research to identify availability of new technology to improve equipment efficiency and reliability.
  • Participates as a team member on research and development projects to upgrade operations and to assist in installing/monitoring new equipment.
  • Follows diagnosis of electrical layout, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit. Splices wires by twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects wiring to equipment such as lighting, motors, and instrumentation using hand tools.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or a GED and 5 years in instrumentation and electrical experience OR One-year certificate from college or technical school and 3 plus years of experience
  • Strong understanding of process control instrumentation, PLCs, and DCS systems
  • Proficiency in reading schematics, P&IDs, and performing control loop checks
  • Moderate computer skills; able to use MS Office and digital documentation tools
  • Physically able to lift heavy equipment, climb, kneel, and work in confined spaces
  • Must be able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions
  • Completion of applicable safety and technical training including NFPA-70E and OSHA
  • Valid and current Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) is required
