Operation TBI Freedom (OTF), a sponsored program of Craig Hospital, is seeking an adaptable and empathetic Veteran TBI Care Coordinator. In this vital non-clinical case management role, you will act as a dedicated advocate and "battle buddy" for veterans and service members living with traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
You will help clients and their families successfully reintegrate into civilian life by navigating complex military, VA, and community support systems. Your day-to-day will be dynamic and rewarding, focusing on:

Holistic Advocacy: Removing barriers to healthcare, benefits, housing, transportation, and behavioral health.

Building Connections: Fostering meaningful, trusting relationships with clients and their caregivers.

Community Engagement: Participating in outreach, recreational outings, peer support, and educational programs.

Location: Onsite at the OTF offices; 565 Communication Circle, Colorado Springs CO 80905
Shift: Monday-Friday; 8:00 am- 4:30 pm MST
Compensation: $21.59/hour - $31.09/ hour

Position Requirements:
- Licensure/Certification/Registrations:
- Must have a current, valid, Colorado driver’s license in good standing and insurable.
- Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) or ability to become certified within the first year of employment
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience:
- Military veterans are preferred, especially those with experience as a Senior Medical NCO, Behavioral Health Specialist, Special Operations Medic, Combat Medic (68W), or similar military healthcare leadership roles.
- Demonstrated understanding of military culture, military family systems, and challenges faced by service members and veterans with TBI, PTSD, behavioral health issues, chronic pain, and complex reintegration needs.
- Preferred knowledge of VA systems: Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), and National Cemetery Administration (NCA) Preferred familiarity with DoD/DHA healthcare systems: Including Soldier Recovery Units (SRUs), Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs), and transition support programs.
- Preferred familiarity with military and TBI-focused resources: NICoE, Intrepid Spirit Centers, TBICoE, Polytrauma/TBI System of Care, Brain Injury Association resources, and veteran community organizations
Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment, discretion, initiative, and critical thinking in dynamic and often ambiguous environments.
- Must be an independent and creative thinker capable of problem-solving, systems navigation, and developing individualized solutions for veterans, service members, and families.
- Must be coachable, receptive to feedback, adaptable to change, and willing to continuously grow professionally within a team-oriented environment.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with veterans, service members, caregivers, community partners, clinical teams, and interdisciplinary stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively engage with individuals experiencing cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and psychosocial challenges related to traumatic brain injury and military service.
- Ability to work weekends as needed
Essential Functions:
- Manage a caseload of clients with mild, moderate, and severe TBI; develop individualized service plans that promote independence, productivity, and successful community reintegration
- Coordinate resources and services for clients and families, including crisis support, counseling, mentoring, and financial assistance for employment and training; serve as a client advocate.
- Provide ongoing follow-up and case management for active duty Service Members and Veterans with TBI.
- Conduct outreach, facilitate peer support and education, and represent the organization within military and veteran communities.
- Deliver training and education on TBI to clients, families, military personnel, and community stakeholders; advocate for client needs.
- Analyze VA benefits, identify opportunities to enhance access, and assist clients in maximizing healthcare and benefit utilization
- Assess need for and provide crisis intervention and emergency support services.
- Meet established timelines for casework, follow-up, risk assessments, and case closure in compliance with applicable laws and organizational policies.
- Coordinate and communicate with interdisciplinary providers; consult with leadership and peers on complex cases; participate in regular case review meetings.
- Prepare and present cases; incorporate recommendations into client service plans.
