Job Description
Position Overview
The Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's quality management system and ensuring products meet customer requirements, engineering specifications, and applicable industry standards. This role leads quality assurance, inspection, corrective action, audit, and continuous improvement activities across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Management System
· Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
· Maintain quality procedures, work instructions, inspection records, and related documentation.
· Ensure quality processes are consistently followed throughout manufacturing operations.
· Establish and monitor quality objectives, metrics, and key performance indicators.
· Support ISO compliance, certification efforts, and ongoing audit readiness.
2. Inspection & Product Quality
· Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities.
· Develop inspection plans, acceptance criteria, and quality checkpoints.
· Verify products meet drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and workmanship standards.
· Ensure measuring and inspection equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
· Identify and control nonconforming materials and finished products.
3. Corrective Action & Continuous Improvement
· Lead investigations into defects, customer complaints, warranty issues, and quality concerns.
· Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
· Track corrective actions through completion and verify their effectiveness.
· Analyze scrap, rework, and defect trends to identify improvement opportunities.
· Lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen product quality and manufacturing performance.
4. Audits, Compliance & Supplier Quality
· Plan and conduct internal quality audits and coordinate external and customer audits.
· Ensure compliance with company standards, customer specifications, and applicable electrical industry requirements.
· Partner with Purchasing to evaluate and monitor supplier quality performance.
· Address supplier nonconformances and coordinate corrective action as needed.
· Maintain organized records for audits, certifications, and regulatory requirements.
5. Leadership & Cross-Functional Support
· Work closely with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Operations.
· Train employees on quality procedures, inspection methods, and workmanship expectations.
· Provide quality guidance during new product introduction and process changes.
· Communicate quality performance, risks, and improvement priorities to leadership.
· Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
· 5+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment, including leadership responsibility.
· Experience with electrical distribution products, switchgear, power systems, or related manufacturing preferred.
· Strong knowledge of quality management systems, ISO 9001, audits, and corrective action processes.
· Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection requirements.
· Experience using ERP/MRP systems and quality tracking tools preferred.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
· Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
