Veridiam is seeking a temporary Visual Work Instruction (VWI) Writer to support our Manufacturing Engineering team in translating existing Manufacturing Instructions (MIs) into clear, visual, step-by-step job aids for shop floor operators. Veridiam has a large library of MIs, each requiring one or more corresponding VWIs. This is a hands-on, high-volume documentation role — you'll work directly with operators and engineers to observe how work is actually performed, then create easy-to-follow visual guides that will be posted at individual workstations.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Visual Work Instructions (VWI) Writer develops, maintains, and controls clear, accurate, and visually oriented work instructions used in manufacturing, assembly, inspection, testing, packaging, and related operations. The position works closely with manufacturing engineering, quality, production, and subject-matter experts to translate technical requirements and shop-floor processes into standardized, easy-to-follow instructions.

The role uses photographs, illustrations, diagrams, annotations, and concise written content to help employees perform work safely, consistently, and in compliance with engineering, quality, customer, and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review existing manufacturing instructions (MIs) to understand process scope and requirements.
  • Observe and interview manufacturing operators performing jobs on the shop floor; ask clarifying questions to capture an accurate understanding of the required sequence of work.
  • Create visual, step-by-step work instructions using photographs, drawings, diagrams, callouts, symbols and concise easy to understand operator-friendly written language.
  • Take photos and/or short videos of each process step.
  • Time each step to include in the VWI.
  • Clearly identify required tools, equipment, materials, personal protective equipment, settings, measurements, tolerances, safety precautions and inspection points.
  • Draft VWIs using a standard template (step description, visual, time per step) with standardized formats, terminology, and visual documentation practices.
  • Route drafts to the relevant engineer/supervisor for technical accuracy review and sign-off.
  • Revise VWIs based on feedback; post/update finalized versions at workstations.
  • Track progress and maintain a status log.
  • May assist with developing standard operating procedures training materials, checklists, and forms.
  • Flag any manufacturing instructions that are outdated, unclear, or inconsistent with current floor practice.
  • Demonstrates ability to appear for work on time, follow directions from a supervisor, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow work rules and procedures, comply with company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and accepts constructive feedback.
  • Other duties as assigned, requested or needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED).
  • Two or more years’ experience creating technical documentation, manufacturing work instructions, visual job aids or production documentation preferred or equivalent of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High level of attention to detail and thorough completion of work tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to understand manufacturing processes and translate technical information into clear, sequential instructions.
  • Read and comprehend verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to spend time on production floor and work around operating machinery.
  • Knowledge and experience with taking and organizing photos.

Pay Rate: The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience with the industry, education, geographic location, etc.
