Job Description
SUMMARY:
Responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of the day-to-day social, educational, recreational, spiritual, and therapeutic individual and group activities, entertainment and transportation services for the residents living at the Community. Achievement of occupancy development goals through coordination with management of the promotion of the Community to the general public through innovation, successful planning, implementation, resident participation, and direct supervision of all social events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, implement and supervise activities to suit a variety of interest and skill levels for the residents using resident comments and input. Experiences may include, but are not limited to - parties, games, weekly exercises, church services, book reading and clubs, crafts, baking, and cooking, outside entertainment, travel and transportation, special activities at holidays, fundraisers for specific projects, and resident’s birthdays and anniversaries.
Effectively encourage and actively promote resident participation in activities/social services.
Assist with the planning of “in-community” seminars or lecture series quarterly for residents, families, and friends.
Participate in local activity planner’s association, if applicable.
Cooperate and exchange ideas and calendars with activity directors in affiliated retirement communities. • Develop programs, activities, seminars, and lectures for the monthly calendar. Print, mail and post the activities calendars.
Edit and publish the monthly newsletter. Distribute and mail to all residents, prospective residents, family members, community contacts, and employees.
Engage in the development of Experiences by offering creative ideas based on resident preferences, input from families, other staff members and consultants.
At the direction of the Executive Director, work with consultants and other outside sources to provide a well-balanced program for the residents.
Visit with and interview all new residents within two (2) business days of occupancy to learn more about them and their individual attributes, abilities, background, interests, preferences, etc.
Innovate, plan, promote, and supervise all activities, entertainment, and transportation programs. Monitor for shifts in preferences, values, and attitudes using personal interviews, approved surveys, resident committees, suggestion boxes, etc.
Recruit, train, retain, and supervise a full complement of volunteers and staff.
Ensure accurate record-keeping related to the planning, supervision, and implementation of activities and entertainment for residents of the Community as well as prospective residents.
Ensure efficient and effective use of all activities/social services department and community resources, human resources, and monetary resources with established budgetary guidelines.
Drives the community vehicle following all safe driving practices, including refraining from use of cell phone (phone calls, emails and/or texting) while vehicle is in motion.
Promote a thorough and continuous understanding among all employees of the importance of the activities department to the quality of life for all residents and prospective residents.
Re-examine, modify, and test old activities/ideas that failed to produce resident and Community involvement.
Assist at the front desk and cover for missing staff members when necessary.
Represent the Community by giving tours for the Community as needed.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Conduct yourself and your business professionally at all times.
Willing to work shift assigned, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to monitor the daily developments and progress of work to see that tasks are being accomplished.
Ability to talk respectfully with, understand, empathize with, work with, and be tolerant of residents, families, supervisors, co-workers, and outside providers while maintaining a positive attitude.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and work within time requirements.
Possess a current, state-specific driver’s license, and/or have reliable transportation at their disposal.
Must have good communication skills, verbal and written; must be able to routinely follow written and verbal instructions. English language skills adequate to allow communication with residents and staff.
Compassion for the elderly and sick.
Self-motivation.
