Job Description
Job Summary:
The Patient Care Manager (PCM) is accountable and responsible twenty-four hours per day for managing and guiding all the activities of the unit, including, but not limited to, the staff, environment, and patients. In addition, the Patient Care Manager is held accountable for functioning within the unit budget by using cost-effective methods while maintaining safe, quality patient care. The PCM is directly accountable and responsible to the Medical Nursing Director. Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach that produces meaningful contributions Requires the promotion of and adherence to the organization’s established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct.

- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and to assess and intervene appropriately when patient condition deteriorates and requires immediate intervention; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
- Provides leadership and serves as a role model for staff.
- Performs unit and patient rounds on a continuous basis.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate changes in policy and procedures and other appropriate communication to staff.
- Demonstrates ability to participate in department planning, decision making and policy formation
- Demonstrates the ability to assist in the coordination of services with the medical staff, nursing staff and other departments as well as other providers.
- Maintains own clinical skills staying current in skills, ongoing competencies, equipment and certifications required in specific nursing area
- Demonstrates ability to perform all technical skills required for the unit’s population by rendering professional nursing care
- Communicates effectively with others in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Demonstrates financial viability with effective use of staff and supplies.
- Ensures infection control procedures and quality measures are followed.
- Demonstrates ability to hold staff accountable to organization’s vision.
- Follows up with staff, family, patients and physicians in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Responds rapidly and effectively during emergency situations.
- Demonstrates through, concise and timely documentation when following up on patient care, quality or staff issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
Graduate of a recognized accredited RN program with a bachelor degree in nursing or healthcare administration is required. Preferred BS in nursing or healthcare administration. A plan to complete a bachelor degree within 24 months is required.
Work Experience:
Three to five years’ experience in nursing required. Prior management experience with demonstrated leadership behaviors is preferred. Required to be able to clinically participate in all components of the nursing process.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS

- Basic Life Support
