Warren-Newport Public Library in Gurnee, IL is seeking a part-time Outreach Services Associate (hourly non-exempt range between $18.02 to $20.73 DOE) to support our outreach efforts and bring library materials directly to those who need them most. This is a hands-on, people-first position—perfect for someone who enjoys working with people of all ages, meaningful interaction, and making library access possible for everyone.
As an Outreach Services Associate, you'll work an average of 22 weekly hours including two weekend shifts per month. The weekly schedule is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Weekend hours are Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Sunday hours are from Labor Day to Memorial Day and are paid at time and half).
Here's what you'll do:
- Prepare materials for outreach visits, including books, DVDs, CDs, and other media.
- Assist with setting up and organizing outreach stations.
- Attend Early Literacy Visits at preschools within the district community.
- Check in and check out materials; renew library materials and issue library cards.
- Handle overdue and lost items.
- Assist with tracking circulation statistics and preparing reports.
- Update patron records and answer basic reference and circulation questions.
- Work at Welcome Desk and drive Library vehicles as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Staff members who work 20+ weekly hours are eligible for the following benefits:

To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a customer service setting.
- Clean driving record.
- Driver's license in good standing to meet insurability requirements.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Spanish fluency is a plus but not required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- The role involves a mix of sitting, standing, and walking.
- Frequent interaction with the public is expected.
- Ability to lift and carry light materials (up to 40 lbs).
