Sr. Director, Business Development

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Director, Business Development based in Netherlands.

As a Sr. Director, Business Development, you will play a pivotal role in driving commercial growth and expanding strategic partnerships across the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical sectors. This senior leadership position focuses on identifying new business opportunities, building long-term client relationships, and guiding complex sales engagements from initial prospecting through contract execution. Working in a highly collaborative and science-driven environment, you will engage with executive stakeholders, technical teams, and industry leaders to deliver tailored development and manufacturing solutions. The role offers significant visibility, influence, and ownership, with direct impact on revenue growth, market expansion, and customer success. Ideal candidates combine strong commercial acumen with a deep understanding of biologics development and manufacturing, enabling them to navigate both technical and executive-level discussions effectively.

Accountabilities
  • Drive business growth by identifying, developing, and closing new opportunities within the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, and pharmaceutical industries.
  • Own the full business development lifecycle, including prospecting, qualification, proposal development, negotiation, contract execution, and account expansion.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with senior executives, decision-makers, and key stakeholders across target organizations.
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to increase market share, revenue generation, and pipeline growth.
  • Collaborate closely with technical, operational, legal, finance, program management, and commercial teams to ensure successful customer engagement and solution delivery.
  • Lead the preparation, presentation, and negotiation of commercial agreements, service contracts, statements of work, and manufacturing agreements.
  • Manage client requests for proposals, information, and quotations while coordinating internal resources to deliver high-quality responses.
  • Support pricing strategy development, contract structuring, and commercial negotiations to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline management, forecasting, and customer records within CRM platforms.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, trade shows, customer meetings, and networking events to strengthen brand visibility and generate new business opportunities.
  • Coordinate customer site visits, audits, and executive engagements while ensuring a positive client experience.
  • Gather and communicate market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer feedback to support strategic planning and business development initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline; MBA or equivalent advanced business qualification is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in business development, sales, or commercial leadership roles within the biologics, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CDMO industries.
  • At least 5 years of experience selling biologics development and manufacturing services or closely related solutions.
  • Demonstrated success in generating new business, growing revenue, and managing complex enterprise sales cycles.
  • Strong network and established relationships within the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical sectors.
  • Deep understanding of biologics development and manufacturing processes, including cell line development, upstream and downstream processing, process development, technology transfer, analytical development, GMP manufacturing, and commercial production.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards governing biologics development and manufacturing, including FDA, EMA, and ICH guidelines.
  • Familiarity with biologic modalities such as monoclonal antibodies and related therapeutic products.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with executive stakeholders while also collaborating with technical and operational teams.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working within cross-functional and international environments.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and standard business software applications.
  • Ability to travel frequently across assigned territories and industry events as required.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities with a results-driven mindset.
