Position Title: Field Commissioning Manager

The Field Commissioning Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating field commissioning activities for renewable energy projects to ensure systems and equipment are installed, tested, and energized according to design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This role supervises field commissioning personnel and subcontractors while coordinating closely with engineering, construction, SCADA, utilities, and operations teams to support safe and efficient system start-up and project turnover.



1) Planning & Documentation:

• Assist in the development and execution of commissioning and energization plans for renewable energy projects.

• Support the preparation and implementation of Pre-Functional Testing (PFT) and Functional Performance Testing (FPT) procedures.

• Review construction drawings, specifications, and commissioning documentation to ensure readiness for testing and energization.

• Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, test records, and reports through approved project systems.

• Ensure field commissioning activities align with project schedules and commissioning plans.

2) Field Execution and Oversight:

• Oversee day-to-day commissioning activities in the field, including testing, troubleshooting, and system verification.

• Supervise field commissioning technicians, subcontractors, and vendors performing commissioning work.

• Coordinate pre-commissioning inspections to verify installation readiness prior to testing.

• Lead system start-up activities and assist with energization of equipment and systems.

• Identify commissioning issues and coordinate corrective actions with engineering, construction, and vendors.

• Support performance verification and operational testing of project equipment and integrated systems.

3) Coordination, Utilities & SCADA Support:

• Coordinate commissioning activities with construction, engineering, QA/QC, and operations teams.

• Participate in SCADA coordination and testing activities to ensure proper communication and system functionality.

• Support SCADA system integration and verification during commissioning and energization activities.

• Assist with coordination and communication with utilities and grid operators for system energization and testing.

• Support compliance with ERCOT-level testing requirements and grid integration procedures when applicable.

• Participate in commissioning meetings and provide field updates on progress, issues, and resolutions.

4) Safety & Quality Compliance:

• Develop and implement best practices and standardized procedures for commissioning activities across projects.

• Support the training and development of internal teams and field personnel involved in commissioning operations.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiency gains, and enhanced system reliability.

• Assist in developing company commissioning standards and documentation templates.

5) Relationships:

• Participate in networking events and business development opportunities within Industry and Professional organizations and associations.

• Ensure proper communication and customer service between your team and the organization.

• Maintain positive, productive relationships with ALL stakeholders, including AUI employees, Subcontractors, Vendors, Owners, Architects, Engineers, and regulatory entities.

• Always represents AUI with the highest standard of professionalism – Leads by example.

6) Miscellaneous Duties:

• Receive Supervisory guidance concerning overall objectives; operate within department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives and perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

• Always adhere to company procedures and policies.

• Attend and participate in meetings as required.

• Provide support on any special projects as requested.

• Available 24/7 as needed for emergencies.

• Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to the Area Manager

• Ensure regular and timely attendance.

• Travel as required depending on project and job site location.

  1. 7+ years of experience in renewable energy, power generation, industrial commissioning, or electrical construction.
  2. 3+ years in a commissioning leadership or supervisory role.
  3. Experience commissioning utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, or power generation facilities.
  4. Demonstrated experience leading system startup, testing, troubleshooting, and energization activities.
  5. Experience managing commissioning technicians, subcontractors, and equipment vendors.
  6. Experience coordinating with utilities, transmission operators, and grid authorities.
