Job Description

Description:

Serving Arkansas with excellence for over 50 years, Klaasmeyer Construction Company is looking our next Fiber Splicer I to join the Field Operations team. In this position, you will be performing fusion and mechanical splicing, assisting with OTDR testing, completing splice documentation, and building the technical foundation needed to advance to your career.

Requirements:

What You'll Be Doing

  • Performing fusion splicing and mechanical splicing of single-mode and multimode fiber optic cable under Lead Fiber Splicer direction
  • Preparing fiber for splicing — mid-span entry, buffer tube identification, fiber cleaning, stripping, and cleaving
  • Organizing and securing splice trays and fiber within splice enclosures to specification
  • Assisting with OTDR testing — setting up equipment, running traces, and recording results accurately
  • Completing splice loss records, OTDR documentation, and splice enclosure logs for assigned work
  • Supporting crew setup, breakdown, cable reel management, and job site cleanup
  • Maintaining assigned splicing equipment in clean and operational condition

What We Need From You

  • 0–2 years of fiber optic splicing experience; completion of a fiber splicing training program or vocational coursework preferred
  • Basic familiarity with fusion splicing equipment, fiber preparation tools, and splice enclosures preferred
  • Understanding of fiber color coding standards and buffer tube identification
  • Comfortable working at heights — ladders, bucket trucks, and aerial lift equipment (GAF poles)
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces — manholes, trenches, pits, and other restricted access environments
  • Available for on-call rotation — Friday 5:00 PM through Monday 7:00 AM on assigned weekends — and emergency fiber outage response as needed
  • FOA certification or equivalent preferred; willingness to obtain required
  • OSHA 10 preferred or willing to obtain
  • Strong attention to detail and steady hands — this work requires sustained precision at a small scale
  • Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and travel locally and regionally for projects
  • Valid driver's license required

The Physical Reality

Fiber splicing is precision work — but it happens in a wide range of environments. Some days you're inside a splice van doing close, careful work. Other days you're up in a bucket truck, down in a manhole, or working in a trench. This role requires comfort working at heights and in confined spaces, in addition to sustained fine motor precision.

  • Extended periods of seated precision work inside the splice van or at a splice workstation
  • Regular work from ladders, bucket trucks, and aerial lift equipment (GAF poles) — fall protection required
  • Regular confined space work — manholes, trenches, pits, and other restricted access environments
  • Lifting and carrying cable reels, equipment cases, and tools up to 50 lbs.
  • Continuous fine motor work — fiber stripping, cleaving, positioning, and tray organization
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions when working outside the splice van

This is a safety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing per company policy.
