About the role

As a Senior Embryologist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding embryology and laboratory services that directly impact patient outcomes. You will provide advanced scientific expertise across IVF laboratory procedures while leading, mentoring and developing team members to achieve the highest standards of clinical excellence.

Working closely with clinicians, scientists and multidisciplinary teams, you will help ensure every patient receives the highest quality care, supported by best-practice laboratory processes, innovation and a genuine commitment to helping families grow.

What you will do

  • Perform advanced embryology and andrology procedures while maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient safety
  • Coordinate daily laboratory workflows to support efficient treatment delivery and positive patient outcomes
  • Identify, retrieve and assess oocytes and monitor embryo development throughout treatment cycles
  • Conduct embryo culture, grading, cryopreservation, vitrification, thawing and embryo transfer procedures
  • Oversee witnessing and critical control processes to ensure compliance and traceability
  • Coordinate complex laboratory procedures, including Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT) programs
  • Communicate scientific information clearly and compassionately to clinicians, patients and colleagues
  • Provide expert scientific recommendations to support clinical decision-making
  • Lead, mentor and develop Embryologists, Trainee Embryologists and Laboratory Assistants
  • Manage laboratory aspects of donor and surrogacy programs in accordance with relevant standards and legislation
  • Monitor laboratory environments, equipment performance and consumable inventory requirements
  • Prepare and present laboratory data, statistics and operational insights as required
  • Maintain accurate documentation, quality records and patient information systems
  • Support accreditation activities, audits and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide laboratory leadership and operational support when required

What we are looking for

  1. Bachelor of Biomedical Science or equivalent tertiary qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, with a minimum of six years' experience as a Clinical Embryologist within a Human IVF laboratory environment or equivalent experience as determined by the Scientific Director.
  2. Demonstrated advanced competency across core IVF laboratory procedures, including semen preparation and analysis, ICSI, standard insemination, embryo culture, embryo grading, cryopreservation, vitrification, thawing, embryo biopsy and embryo transfer procedures.
  3. Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop team members through coaching, onboarding, training, performance support and the promotion of a positive, respectful and collaborative workplace culture.
  4. Strong understanding of Assisted Reproductive Technology, IVF cycle management, fertility laboratory accreditation requirements, quality systems, relevant legislation and continuous improvement principles, with the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
  5. Highly developed communication, problem-solving and organisational skills, with a demonstrated commitment to Compassion, Respect, Commitment, Quality and Communication in the delivery of patient-centred fertility care, including participation in on-call, weekend and public holiday rosters as required.
