GEAR UP New Mexico Coordinator

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs

Position Overview

Archer Academy of Accelerated Learning seeks an energetic, highly organized, and student-centered professional to serve as the school’s GEAR UP New Mexico Coordinator. The coordinator will lead the implementation of services designed to increase college and career readiness, strengthen postsecondary awareness, and ensure students and families have the knowledge, experiences, and support needed to pursue education and training beyond high school.

Working in partnership with Archer Academy leadership, the New Mexico Higher Education Department, and GEAR UP New Mexico, the coordinator will align GEAR UP services with Archer Academy’s accelerated learning model, individualized graduation pathways, and commitment to preparing every student for college, career, and community.

This is a full-time, 10-month position (short-term) contingent upon continued external funding.

Essential ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership and Student Support
  • Coordinate the full range of GEAR UP services for eligible student cohorts, including college and career readiness, tutoring, mentoring, mathematics interventions, AVID, credit recovery, GEAR UP Week, college-awareness campaigns, and summer transition programming.
  • Align GEAR UP services with Archer Success, Individualized Graduation Plans, transcript audits, Early Warning System data, and each student’s postsecondary goals.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive pre-college programming that includes career exploration, academic planning, college admissions preparation, financial aid education, scholarship awareness, and financial literacy.
  • Coordinate in-school, after-school, and summer tutoring, mentoring, enrichment, and transition opportunities in collaboration with Archer Academy staff and GEAR UP partners.
  • Organize college visits, career-connected learning, job-shadowing, campus experiences, and other activities that help students envision and prepare for life after graduation.
  • Encourage consistent student participation and remove barriers that may prevent eligible students from accessing GEAR UP opportunities.
  • Serve as a mentor, advocate, and positive role model who reflects Archer Academy’s commitment to inclusiveness, high expectations, relationship-centered support, and student success.
Family, Staff, and Community Engagement
  • Orient students, families, faculty, and staff to the goals, benefits, services, and participation expectations of GEAR UP New Mexico.
  • Increase awareness of postsecondary opportunities among students, families, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Serve as a trusted college and career planning resource for students, families, teachers, counselors, and other educators.
  • Develop clear, accessible, and culturally responsive outreach and communication strategies for families.
  • Build partnerships with colleges, universities, workforce organizations, community agencies, and other organizations that can expand opportunities for Archer students.
  • Represent Archer Academy professionally at GEAR UP partnership meetings, institutes, conferences, and community events.
Data, Fiscal, and Program Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student participation, services, outcomes, and progress toward GEAR UP benchmarks.
  • Collect participant rosters and required documentation for all events and services involving students and families.
  • Coordinate data collection and entry and provide regular feedback to Archer Academy leadership and GEAR UP New Mexico regarding program implementation, benchmarks, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Review fiscal, programmatic, time-and-effort, match, budget, and reimbursement documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure required documentation is submitted accurately and on time, including budgets, requests for reimbursement, matching-fund records, participation data, and program reports.
  • Use participation and outcome data to evaluate program effectiveness, identify gaps in service, and recommend improvements.
  • Follow all applicable Archer Academy policies, grant requirements, state and federal regulations, confidentiality expectations, and internal fiscal controls.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, public administration, or a closely related field.
  • Experience working with adolescents, families, schools, college-access programs, or community-based youth programs.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and public-relations skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize multiple projects, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and coordinate events.
  • Proficiency with standard technology, data-management systems, spreadsheets, presentation tools, and digital communication platforms.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Commitment to serving students from historically underserved backgrounds and supporting equitable access to postsecondary opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in a public school, charter school, alternative education, college-access, or federally funded grant setting.
  • Knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, career pathways, dual credit, and postsecondary transition planning.
  • Experience with AVID, tutoring, mentoring, credit recovery, or college-readiness programming.
  • Experience managing grant documentation, program data, budgets, reimbursements, or matching requirements.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Personal or professional experience that reflects an understanding of the communities and students served by Archer Academy.

  • Participate in required professional development, meetings, conferences, and program activities.
  • Be available for occasional evening, weekend, overnight, and summer activities, as well as local and statewide travel.
Employment Information
  • Schedule: Full-time, 10-month position

  • Funding: Employment is contingent upon the availability and continuation of GEAR UP or other external funding.
  • Travel: Local and statewide travel is required. Some evening, weekend, overnight, and summer responsibilities may be necessary.
