Job Description
COLOR MATCHER
JOB DIMENSIONS
• Dorn Color is a leader in the Color Card and Sampling market. We pride ourselves on being the best in the industry on color matching to exact specifications dictated by our customers. Color is our core competency at the centre of what we do. Having been in business since 1926 we pride ourselves on delivering high quality sampling collateral that help our customers exceed their sales objectives and help differentiate from their competition. ACTIVITIES
• Learn to efficiently match all varieties of color submitted by our customers. This would include gloss, satin, flat, metallic, stain, mearls/pearls, fluorescent, nutshell, etc..
• Read each job ticket and follow the Department Manager’s instructions regarding specifications for Color Matching.
• Understand and use equipment and tools in the color matching process. This includes the spectrophotometer, computer, color matching software applications, light booth, gloss meter, scales, mixers, drum lift, dispenser, etc…
• Understand and able to perform any functions of the color matching process including color formulation, color batching, batch corrections and retouches.
• Provide the Coating Department with the correct batch size of lacquer to coat the number of sheets required for each job.
• Responsible for cost containment by using the correct materials for color matching and keeping scrap lacquer at a minimum level.
• Properly store and handle all color matching equipment, tools, materials and supplies. Handle customer standards with the utmost care.
• Keep the Color Manager well informed of problems encountered in the Color Matching process.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow all work instructions and procedures for the Color Department.
• Responsible for performing any duties which would enhance the overall efficiency of the department and company.
• Responsible for properly handling, storing, and following procedures associated with hazardous material/waste and complying with EPA and OSHA standards. Keep hazardous waste container closed, except when adding waste. Label hazardous waste
containers and ensure labels have been correctly dated
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
• This position is at Dorn Color plant location on Berea Road off West 114th Street in Cleveland
• The job reports to the Color Manager
• This is for either 2nd shift, or 3rd shift
• 2nd or 3rd shift carries a shift differential as part of its hourly pay package.
• Plant environment, climate controlled in the Color Lab
ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Be able meet the key KPI’s for all color matching functions
• All work must be done with the utmost safety in mind.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Quickly assimilate and retain knowledge
• Excellent judgement and decision making skills
• Basic math skills
• Good communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Good color eye
• Ability to lift 50lbs
• Creative problem solving skills
• Experience in a production-oriented environment
• Able to work around chemicals and solvents
