Job Description

Description:

The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders, who continue to sacrifice life and limb for our country. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans.

The Foundation is seeking an experienced Veteran Entitlement Services Coordinator to join our team and help connect Veterans with the benefits and services they are entitled to receive. The Veteran Entitlement Specialist is responsible for assisting clients, particularly Veterans, in accessing and securing benefits, services, and resources they are entitled to. This role involves navigating federal, state, and local entitlement programs, including but not limited to VA benefits, Social Security, Medicaid, and housing assistance. The Veteran Entitlement Services Coordinator will work closely with Veterans to assess eligibility, submit applications, and advocate on their behalf while ensuring compliance with program requirements.

Applicants must have experience in benefits coordination, entitlement programs, or social services. Strong networking abilities, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, are essential. Additionally, candidates should be comfortable advocating for clients, handling sensitive information, and presenting information in both individual and group settings. The role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask efficiently, and the capacity to manage cases within established timelines.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist Veterans in understanding and applying for entitlement programs such as VA benefits, Social Security Disability (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, Medicare, and housing assistance programs.

  • Advocate for clients navigating complex systems and liaise with agencies to resolve issues.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed client records, including case notes, applications, determinations, and follow-ups.

  • Develop relationships with government agencies, Veterans’ organizations, and community resources.
  • Serve as a liaison between Veterans and benefit providers to facilitate access to entitlements.
  • Stay updated on changes to policies and procedures related to entitlement programs.
  • Educate Veterans and staff on available benefits and eligibility requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in client interactions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field required.
  • Accredited Veterans Service Officer (VSO) Certification or currently in the process of acquiring it.
  • Experience working with entitlement programs, social services, or benefits coordination is preferred.
  • Knowledge of VA benefits and government assistance programs is highly desirable.
  • Strong advocacy and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently and work in a fast-paced environment.
