Job Description

Description:

At Orijin, we believe exceptional baking begins with exceptional people. Located in the heart of Downtown Ann Arbor, Orijin is an artisan bakery dedicated to handcrafted breads, viennoiseries, pastries, desserts, and seasonal baked goods. Every item we produce reflects our commitment to craftsmanship, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality.

The Bakery Supervisor is a hands-on service leader who sets the tone for the day, leading the opening team and working alongside them on the service line and behind the espresso bar. It’s a role for someone who cares about both great product and genuine hospitality, and who wants to help a team grow while keeping every guest’s experience excellent.

What you’ll do
  • Lead the opening team through checklists and procedures so the bakery is fully prepared and opens on time
  • Count and verify cash drawers and petty cash, and walk the dining room and guest-facing areas to make sure everything is clean, polished, and ready
  • Work alongside the team in both service and barista roles, delivering consistent guest service and product quality
  • Coach teammates on espresso and coffee brewing, latte art, drink preparation, and guest service, and share product knowledge that helps grow sales
  • Coordinate with the kitchen on product availability and timing, and keep management informed of operational needs, team feedback, and guest concerns
What we provide
  • Medical coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network, with four plan options including an HSA-eligible plan and a monthly company contribution toward your premium, plus dental and vision coverage, starting the first of the month after 60 days of full-time employment
  • Paid vacation: earn 1 hour for every 35 hours worked, available after 90 days, up to 40 hours per year
  • Paid sick time: earn 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 72 hours per year
  • Peace of mind: optional life insurance for you, your spouse, and your children
  • Heavily discounted baked goods, plus 25% off at Sava’s, Aventura, and The Dixboro Project on your days off
  • The chance to build your career with one of the region’s most successful hospitality groups, where we expect and support your personal and professional growth
Requirements: Who you are
  • Previous experience in a café, bakery, or restaurant, ideally with some experience training or leading teammates
  • Working knowledge of espresso, coffee brewing, and drink preparation, with latte art a plus
  • Comfortable handling cash and following opening checklists with accuracy and consistency
  • Knowledgeable about the products you serve and confident recommending them to guests
  • A warm, clear communicator who leads by example, takes initiative, and stays reliable, accountable, and professional
Physical requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Frequently bend, reach, twist, kneel, and lift while preparing beverages, stocking supplies, and cleaning
  • Lift, carry, and move up to 35 lbs regularly, and push or pull carts, racks, and storage containers
  • Perform repetitive hand and wrist movements while operating espresso equipment, steaming milk, and preparing beverages
  • Work safely around hot liquids, steam, commercial beverage equipment, cleaning chemicals, and confined workspaces

Hospitality means making everyone feel welcome, and that starts with who we hire. The Pulpo Group is an equal opportunity employer, and we actively encourage people of every background, identity, and life experience to apply, including people of color, women, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, veterans, older workers, and people returning to the workforce. We make employment decisions based on skill, character, and care for guests and teammates, never on race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, height, weight, marital or familial status, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law. If you don’t meet every qualification listed but believe you’d be great in this role, we still want to hear from you. If you need a reasonable accommodation at any point in the application or interview process, let us know and we’ll work with you.
