Job Description

Clinical Supervisor, RDN

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Clinical Supervisor, RDN based in the United States.

The Clinical Supervisor, RDN will help build and oversee a scalable clinical nutrition program delivering medically tailored nutrition support to people living with chronic health conditions. This part-time, fully remote position offers approximately 20 hours per week and combines clinical leadership, direct patient care, and provider supervision. You will help develop evidence-based nutrition protocols, standardize care delivery, and establish quality measures across a distributed network of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. Working closely with program leadership and clinical collaborators, you will support personalized, culturally responsive care for members managing diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and weight management with GLP-1 medications. The role provides an opportunity to shape an evolving food-as-medicine model while improving consistency, access, and outcomes for medically complex populations. It is ideal for an experienced RDN who combines strong clinical judgment with a passion for population health, mentorship, and building effective care systems.

Accountabilities
  • Develop the clinical nutrition model: Partner with program leadership and founding RDNs to establish a scalable framework for clinical nutrition services, including provider competencies, disease-area specializations, cultural and linguistic capabilities, recruitment criteria, and a structured vetting process.

  • Create evidence-based nutrition protocols: Develop condition-specific clinical guidance for diabetes, oncology, cardiovascular disease, and weight management involving GLP-1 medications, drawing on current clinical standards and guidelines from relevant professional organizations.

  • Standardize nutrition assessments: Define intake tools, assessment procedures, clinical flagging criteria, and escalation pathways for members with complex medical needs.

  • Build structured counseling frameworks: Establish consistent approaches for initial nutrition assessments, follow-up visits, nutrition education, and group counseling where appropriate.

  • Integrate behavior change methodologies: Embed Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, SMART goal-setting, and other appropriate evidence-based methods into clinical practice standards.

  • Promote culturally responsive care: Establish standards that support respectful, accessible, and individualized nutrition services for members from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Establish documentation and quality standards: Develop clinical documentation requirements, quality metrics, outcome-tracking processes, and reporting practices aligned with health plan and regulatory expectations.

  • Build clinical resources: Curate and maintain a resource library of condition-specific educational materials, counseling tools, handouts, and standardized templates to support clinician training and consistent care delivery.

  • Provide direct patient care: Maintain a focused caseload of approximately 8–12 active members, conducting comprehensive nutrition assessments and creating individualized care plans that incorporate medically tailored meal planning.

  • Deliver nutrition education and counseling: Provide evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and behavior-focused counseling to members managing chronic conditions and complex health needs.

  • Coordinate member care: Collaborate with health plan care teams and care coordinators to support care management, referrals, follow-up, and appropriate escalation.

  • Supervise and support the RDN network: Provide clinical oversight and quality assurance for contracted and subcontracted RDNs, with supervision practices appropriate to each provider relationship and scope of responsibility.

  • Conduct clinical reviews: Perform regular chart audits and case reviews to evaluate documentation quality, clinical appropriateness, and adherence to established protocols.

  • Facilitate peer learning: Organize monthly peer-review sessions and case consultations, identify individual and network-wide development needs, and coordinate continuing education or skills training.

  • Lead provider onboarding: Train RDNs on the clinical model, assessment and education templates, documentation expectations, and clinical resource library to support consistent, high-quality care.

  • Serve as a clinical escalation resource: Advise on complex, high-acuity, or ethically sensitive cases and help maintain safe, appropriate, evidence-based care across the network.

Requirements
  • Professional credential: Active Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential in good standing with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

  • State licensure: Active dietitian licensure or credentialing in the state of practice wherever required, such as the Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist (CDN) credential in New York.

  • Clinical experience: At least 5 years of clinical registered dietitian experience, with substantial focus on chronic disease management involving diabetes, cardiovascular disease, oncology, weight management, or a combination of these areas.

  • Medical Nutrition Therapy expertise: Demonstrated experience delivering MNT, nutrition education, and individualized counseling to vulnerable, medically complex, or diverse patient populations.

  • Behavior change skills: Familiarity with evidence-based behavior change approaches, particularly Motivational Interviewing, and the ability to apply them in practical clinical settings.

  • Clinical documentation: Strong documentation and care-planning skills, with the ability to establish and maintain clear clinical records and quality standards.

  • Virtual care experience: Comfort delivering nutrition services through telehealth or other remote care platforms.

  • Clinical judgment: Ability to assess complex needs, identify risk factors, recognize when escalation is necessary, and develop appropriate, person-centered care plans.

  • Program development: Ability to translate clinical evidence and guidelines into structured protocols, practical workflows, educational resources, and scalable standards of care.

  • Leadership and mentoring: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to train, support, and provide clinical guidance to RDNs and other nutrition professionals.

  • Organizational skills: A self-directed, adaptable approach and the ability to manage clinical responsibilities while building processes in a fast-moving, evolving environment.

  • Preferred certification — CDCES: Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist credential is strongly preferred and required for certain health plan contracts.

  • Additional preferred certifications: National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO), Board Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management (CSOWM), or Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND).

  • Motivational Interviewing training: Formal training or certification through the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) or an equivalent program is preferred.

  • Relevant program experience: Experience with medically tailored meals, food-as-medicine initiatives, or community-based nutrition programs is an advantage.

  • Supervisory experience: Previous experience supervising or mentoring RDNs, dietetic interns, or clinical nutrition staff is preferred.

  • Additional licensure preference: Washington State Licensed Dietitian (LD) credential, or willingness to obtain it. Licensure support is available for relevant contract opportunities.
