Who You Are:

You're a caring and dependable early childhood educator who enjoys helping young children learn through play, exploration, routines, and positive relationships. You work well as part of a classroom team and believe children learn best when their languages, cultures, identities, and strengths are welcomed and celebrated.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Meet the current DEEL/MERIT qualification requirements for an SPP Assistant Teacher
  • Generally, this includes an AA in Early Childhood Education or another associate degree with the required ECE coursework under the current SPP standard
  • Ability to meet applicable Washington State child care licensing, background check, health and safety, and SPP requirements
  • Experience supporting young children in an early learning, preschool, childcare, or related educational setting

Preferred:

  • Previous Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) experience preferred but not required. Candidates who meet or are eligible to meet current SPP qualification requirements are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience supporting preschool curriculum and classroom planning
  • Experience with child observation, assessment, and documentation
  • Experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD and other child assessment tools
  • Experience with culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices and supporting dual language learners
  • Experience working with diverse children and families
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong relationship-building skills with children, families, and colleagues
  • A collaborative, team oriented mindset
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating welcoming learning environments

What You'll Do:

Classroom & Learning Support

  • Partner with the Lead Teacher to implement curriculum and daily learning activities
  • Support classroom routines, transitions, small-group activities, and individualized learning experiences
  • Help create a safe, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive classroom environment

  • Participate in required professional development, coaching, planning, and team meetings

Education Verification:

Candidates must meet current DEEL/MERIT qualification requirements for an SPP Assistant Teacher. An AA, BA, or higher degree in another field does not automatically qualify a candidate without the required ECE coursework. Education, ECE coursework, and MERIT qualifications will be verified before determining eligibility.

Previous SPP experience is preferred but not required for candidates who meet or are eligible to meet the applicable qualification requirements.
