Job Description

Job Title: Math Teacher - High School (“Teacher”)

Department: High School

Reports to: High School Director

Classification: Exempt, Full-time Faculty, Benefit eligible

Supervisory responsibility: None

Salary: Salary offered depends on qualifications and years of teaching experience

About the Role

As a High School Math Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping students' understanding and appreciation of mathematics, preparing them for academic success and real-world problem-solving. Under the guidance of the High School Director, you will design and deliver comprehensive lesson plans that align with Waldorf standards and cater to diverse learning styles, helping ensure all students achieve their full potential.

Your role involves assessing student progress through various evaluation methods and providing constructive feedback to support continuous improvement. Collaborating with colleagues, parents, and administrators, you will contribute to a positive and inclusive educational environment. Ultimately, your work will inspire critical thinking, analytical skills, and a lifelong interest in mathematics among high school students.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
  2. Valid teaching certification or license for secondary education in the state of employment.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of high school math curriculum and standards.
  4. Strong classroom management skills.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  6. Successfully complete pre-employment background check and if appropriate, driving record check.
  7. Be eligible for employment in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Mathematics or Education.
  2. Experience teaching diverse student populations in a high school setting.
  3. Familiarity with Waldorf pedagogy, educational technology and digital learning tools.
  4. Training in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies.
  5. Experience with Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) math courses.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Teach and develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cover High School mathematics, including Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Business Math, and Statistics; and collaborate with other math faculty to ensure curricular coherence.
  1. Assess and evaluate student performance through tests, quizzes, homework, and class participation.
  2. Provide individualized support and interventions to help students overcome learning challenges.
  3. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
  4. Collaborate with fellow teachers and school staff to enhance curriculum and promote a supportive learning environment.
  5. Communicate effectively with the Director, co-workers and others (internally and externally) to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve and/or report problems.
  6. Substitute for colleagues as requested.
  7. Participate in school festivals, assemblies, open houses, year-start and year-end trips, and community events.
  8. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational best practices and math instruction techniques.
  9. Create a classroom atmosphere that encourages respect, curiosity, and a growth mindset.
  10. Teach an average of 22-27 class periods per week (900–1200 minutes/week), including main lesson blocks and skills classes.
  11. Be on campus during the regular school day (typically 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.).
  12. Check and respond to email daily and communicate promptly with students, families, and colleagues.
  13. Demonstrate proficiency with Google Workspace and familiarity with learning management systems.
  14. Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and reporting records.
  15. Follow School policies and procedures and the instructions and guidance of supervisor.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Advanced classroom management skills that enable the teacher to effectively deliver complex mathematical concepts in an understandable and engaging manner, adapting lessons to meet varied student needs.
  2. Strong communication skills are essential for explaining material clearly and fostering open dialogue with students and parents.
  3. Classroom management skills ensure a productive and respectful learning environment.
  4. Familiarity with educational technology to allow the teacher to incorporate digital resources that enhance learning and engagement.
  5. Expertise in differentiated instruction helps tailor teaching approaches to support all learners, promoting equity and academic success.

Physical and Mental Requirements

The Teacher must meet the following mental and physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. The ability to learn, understand, remember, and communicate effectively information about the job.
  2. The ability to understand the meaning of and use and speak words understandably and effectively in the English language.
  3. Good hearing and listening abilities, that is, the Grades Teacher must be able to hear spoken words from students, parents, co-workers, and others.
  4. Good motor coordination skills, that is, the ability to coordinate his or her eyes, hands and fingers rapidly and accurately in order to handle precise movements such as typing.
  5. Make and use repetitive hand motions over an extended period, as when typing.
  6. Work effectively under pressure and deadlines.
  7. Sit, stand, move around, bend, reach, grasp, stretch, push and pull, and remain sitting or upright for extended periods of time in one room.
