POSITION SUMMARY:
Nurses are responsible for the coordination and delivery of quality nursing care in accordance with the rules and regulations of the State, Iowa Board of Nursing, and Radix Recovery. In particular, Detox nurses play a crucial role in the recovery processes for patients undergoing detoxification from substances, providing medical care and emotional support. Depending on qualifications and experience, this position may be filled as Residential Nurse, Detox Nurse, or combined.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Assessment – Patient Care:
- Facilitates and schedules intakes, discharges, and transfers to Radix Recovery residential or outpatient, and/or outside agency programs as necessary;
- Works as part of an interdisciplinary team to gather medical history and manage the intake process;
- Assesses clients for withdrawal symptoms and administer medications as indicated per appropriate Medical Provider’s orders;
- Takes and records vital signs and medically monitor clients’ detoxification symptoms using CIWA and COWS, and administers routine an PRN and medications as indicated;
- Answers phone and assists with housekeeping duties as necessary;
- Implements motivational interviewing and active listening techniques in supporting clients recovering from drug/alcohol dependence;
- Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, and recommending necessary adjustments;
- Follows detox division and nursing division philosophies and standards of care set by the state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, Iowa Administrative Rules, and the RN Scope of Practice; and Radix Recovery Policies & Procedures;
- Supervises, delegates, and assigns care as appropriate to LPN’s, Techs and/or CNA’s as applicable
- Provides referrals to outside agencies as indicated;
- Ensures a safe and clean working environment in compliance with OSHA, Radix Recovery
Policies and Procedures,
- Observe patients and maintain accurate documentation of their responses to treatment in EHR.
- Provide nursing care, oversee medical interventions, and assist in urgent/emergent situations.
- Provide emotional Support and counseling addressing their fears and concerns throughout Medical Withdrawal/Detox process, provides education regarding healthy recovery and medical concepts related to addiction and deliver training as directed; provides education regarding healthy recovery and medical concepts related to addiction and may deliver training as directed;
- Provide culturally congruent care that comprehensively considers the physiological, psychological, and spiritual aspects of health.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team. Including physicians and mental health professionals, to adjust treatment plans based on patient progress.
- Work closely with MW/Detox team to provide high quality nursing care
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Comply with all federal, state, Board of Nursing, and local healthcare regulations including Infection control, HIPAA and 42 CFR
- Comply with all Radix Recovery policies & procedures and JACO regulations
Support and/or Provide Documentation for Insurance Submission
- Complete all admission assessments, plan of care, and documentation prior to end shift
- Support phone calls with Insurance carries assistance with client status, plan of care, current medication regime, and client plans after discharge.

Qualifications:
- Valid Iowa unencumbered Nursing License (LPN minimum)
- Degree from accredited school of nursing
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of nursing care as evidenced by at least 2 years of direct patient/client practice
- Knowledge of Mental Health and/or Medical Withdrawal/Detox services preferred but will train
- Strong client engagement skills
- Knowledge and understanding of treatment of the disease of addiction, including the management of withdrawal; client evaluation; motivational counseling techniques; and the taking and recording of vital signs
- Knowledge and ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment in compliance with OSHA, Radix Recovery Policies and Procedures, Iowa Administrative Rules, and the RN Scope of Practice
- Proven success in collaborating with co-workers and a multi-disciplinary team to provide and advocate for excellent patient care
- Computer literacy
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and demonstrated compassion towards individuals with mental illness and substance abuse disorders
- Strong communication skills (oral and written)

- Holiday, evening, night, and weekend work will be required

- For individuals in recovery from substance-use disorder, must have maintained continuous recovery for the previous 12 months
