Accountabilities
  • Write engaging content for internal and external newsletters focused on civic engagement, voter education, and organizational updates.
  • Develop blog articles and news stories covering topics such as voting rights, election updates, and civic participation.
  • Research and conduct interviews for volunteer spotlights, event coverage, and election-related reporting.
  • Pitch story ideas and collaborate with editors on assigned editorial topics.
  • Support content planning and contribute to storytelling strategies aligned with mission goals.
  • Ensure all written content is clear, accurate, and aligned with editorial standards and tone.
  • Participate in team collaboration sessions and editorial meetings (including weekly check-ins).
  • Help translate complex civic and election-related topics into accessible, engaging content for a broad audience.
Requirements
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with journalism experience or clips to demonstrate work.
  • Current journalism student, recent graduate, or freelance writer with relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems.
  • Ability to research topics thoroughly and conduct interviews when needed.
  • Interest in civic engagement, elections, political reporting, or nonprofit communications.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, volunteer-based environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality content.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with distributed teams.
  • Bonus: experience covering politics, civic issues, or nonprofit organizations.
